Michael Sheelar is a pianist and composer based in New York City. He just recently completed his undergraduate degree at the New School, studying jazz piano and composition. During his time in New York Michael has begun working in the field of cross-disciplinary collaboration, collaborating with the Joffrey School of Ballet, the Lincoln Center Library for Performing Arts, and New Beginnings Dance Company. Michael is currently working on a collection of his own music to release to the public in the near future. This collection of music is inspired by the poetry of Ocean Vuong, Jean -Michel Basquiat, Siegfried Sassoon and some of Michael’s own poetry. Michaels piece will be premiered at Opus 2.

The bass is the of the orchestra. Western music is built from the bottom up and they have the lowest sound in the orchestra’s string section so if they’re off, everybody’s off. It’s a very physical instrument and I find very amusing every time I see one in the subway. This thing is huge!
