On Saturday, September 5, 2026, as a special feature of Franklin Furnace Archive's 50th Anniversary, a group of stalwart friends of Franklin Furnace who live in the Hudson Valley met for the first KoFFee Klatch & Donut Klutch at Golden Harvest Farms in Valatie, New York. Longtime supporters Alexandra Anderson; Ann Artschwager; Ann Butler; Kat Griefen, Rob Van Erve & Sjorsje; William Klein; Karen Lynch, and Richard Minsky joined Franklin Furnace's Ken Dewey Director Harley Spiller & his wife, the Franklin Furnace artist alumn Micki Spiller.

We modelled FF t-shirts; enjoyed coffee and fresh apple c***r donuts, and perused the advance copy of Martha Wilson's forthcoming Back to the Present: 50 Years of Free Expression with Franklin Furnace (Princeton Architectural Press, publication date November 17 - pre-order using the link below). It was so much fun we're talking about making it an annual event!

LINK IN BIO: 2026 Membership Now Open!

We’re giving print a lot of extra love this year. From Dieter Roth and Lawrence Weiner’s early conceptualizations, to Carolee Schneemann and Suzanne Lacy’s formative feminist publications, the field of artists’ books has always offered steadfast, quiet, and powerful acts of resistance.

Ever in opposition to cultural commodification and gatekeeping, artists’ books create spaces for ideas and voices that aren’t heard or welcome in the mainstream.

Franklin Furnace was conceived to be such a space and you’re invited to join our continual celebration artists’ books.

Art in Odd Places (AiOP) began as an action by a group of artists led by Ed Woodham to encourage local participation in the Cultural Olympiad of the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.
In 2005, after moving back to New York City, he re-imagined it as a response to the dwindling of public space and personal civil liberties – first in the Lower East Side and East Village, and since 2008, on 14th Street in Manhattan. AiOP has always been a grassroots project fueled by the goodwill and inventiveness of its participants.

The event is curated by Arantxa Araujo Arantxa Araujo and Pancho López Pancho Lopez

Cherrie Yu (she/they)

Artist Biography:
Born in Xi’an, China and based in New York, Cherrie Yu works in choreography, moving image and installation. She has been in residence at Yaddo, the Fine Arts Work Center, Macdowell, and Sharpe Walentas Studio Program. She was a 2022 Media Award Fellow at Kala Art Institute in Berkeley, and a 2024 Van Lier Fellow with Movement Research in NYC. She is currently working towards a performance premiere at Abrons Art Center in November 2025.

Proposed Project:
I propose a performance lecture in the format of a satirical art competition, revolving around the history of the cargo ship Golden Venture. The lecture will follow the historical timeline of underground Chinese immigration into the US in the 80s and 90s, smuggling operation of the snakehead Cheng Chui Ping, as well as a paper sculpture made by Cai Xiang Qui, one of the immigrant survivors aboard Golden Venture. The lecture will dissolve into an art competition, where a group of contemporary artists attempt to reenact Cai’s paper sculpture for a jury formed by audience members.

Tichacoco (they/them)

Artist Biography:
Tichacoco is a sculptress of Managuara, so-called “El Salvador.” Their work draws on the landscape and material culture of Eastern El Salvador to honor and reflect on the experiences of Central American ancestors and their descendants. They earned a BFA in Interdisciplinary Sculpture from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2021. Tichacoco is an inaugural 2026–2027 Van Lier Fellow at the Clemente and has held residencies at Fernland Studios and the Curatorial Program of Research. Past exhibits include Area 405 (Baltimore) and UNICA at UCLA (Los Angeles). They will be featured in Fingir’s Spring 2027 debut edition, No olvides las manos que nos dieron de comer.

Proposed Project:
A response to the settler-state of El Salvador’s constant attacks on land defenders, indigenous communities, women, and the lgtbq+ community, DEVOUR THE SUN is a multi-media performance in collaboration with poet and interdisciplinary artist, Aída Esmeralda, incorporating somatic choreography, sculptural costumes, experimental sound, poetry, and the stories of Central American femmes across time and borders. The ritual unfolds as two dual beings, Attestor/Orator and Wisdom/Rage duet between physical and spiritual boundaries to bless a machete as offering to spirits and ancestors, a prayer aimed at invoking the strength and guidance needed to shield our desaparecidos seeking a safe journey home.

Anna Ting Möller (She/Her)

Artist Biography:
Anna Ting Möller is an artist based in New York and Stockholm. Möller holds an MFA from Columbia University and a BFA from Konstfack, Stockholm. She is the 2026–2027 recipient of the Bernadotte Scholarship from The Art Academy, culminating in a solo exhibition in August 2027, Stockholm. Möller is the 2026 NYSCA/NYFA Artist Fellowship in sculpture.

Her work has been shown at MASS MoCA; Liljevalchs Konsthall; ArkDes; Carl Eldhs Ateljémuseum; Jyväskylä Art Museum; Phillips New York. Reviews have appeared in Hyperallergic and The Brooklyn Rail.

Möller has been awarded residencies at prestigious cultural institutions including the MacDowell, Robert Wilson's The Watermill Center, and Lower Manhattan Cultural Council.

Proposed Project:
Dissolve and Coagulate — A Visual Inquiry into Abjection; a performance centered around a living kombucha matrilineage cultivated over the past decade. Originally gifted to me in China, this culture catalyzed an ongoing investigation into the paradox of care: its survival depends on upheld attention, yet it unfolds through processes that exceed control. The term care, from the Latin cura, signifies both concern and cure, revealing its dichotomy. Performers engage in acts of cultivation—feeding, harvesting, grafting, stitching, and reconfiguring the material and space. These gestures oscillate between care and violation, positioning the body as caretaker, manipulator, and contaminant.

Angelina Laguna (she/they)

Artist Biography:
Angelina Laguna is a performance artist in New York City. She has worked for and alongside choreographers, visual artists, musicians, dancers, writers, organizers, cinematographers, lawyers, and table tennis champions. She performs in studios, on stages and on sidewalks.
Laguna practices ballet, Cunningham technique and dabke. Additionally, she is involved with the Cabrini Immigrant Services Food Pantry and with various socialist and anti-imperialist groups across the city. These practices shape her process and performances.

Proposed Project:
What are the effects of physical actions in relation to large scale power structures? Site Scores, a group performance series, poses this question at New York City public spaces in proximity to centers of institutional power. Shared widely through live-streams and online archives, a team of dancers, photographers, videographers, writers and managers perform the event alongside the actions and reactions of passersby and authority figures.
