The Global Africa Gateway is an initiative of The Africa Center, established in partnership with Afreximbank, that creates structured pathways for Africa’s diaspora to engage with people, institutions and opportunities across Africa. The Gateway delivers this through research, convening, partnerships and professional engagement, connecting investors, entrepreneurs, professionals, institutional partners and students with relevant networks and opportunities for meaningful engagement.

On Tuesday, September 1, The Gateway will host its inaugural webinar introducing participants to the initiative's vision, objectives, and key pillars. Attendees will gain insights into how Afreximbank and The Africa Center are collaborating to build pathways that facilitate deeper engagement between Africa and diaspora communities.

The webinar will showcase current and upcoming opportunities available through the initiative, including the Diaspora Study, Internship Programme, Diaspora Professionals Initiative, and Future Africa Forum. Participants will also learn about Afreximbank's flagship platforms and events, including the Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF), CANEX Weekend, and the AfriCaribbean Trade & Investment Forum (ACTIF), among others.

We're putting a spotlight on the Global Africa Gateway 2026 Summer Interns. Meet Alfred Brandon Woodward.

Brandon, a Flint, Michigan native, graduated from Howard University’s School of Business as a Legacy Scholar, studying International Business with a focus on Emerging Markets in 2015. He spent over eight years at Goldman Sachs in corporate finance, working in Regulatory Operations, DEI program management, and diversity recruiting.

He later served as Senior Manager of Community Engagement and DEI at Lime Connect, a nonprofit supporting individuals with visible and invisible disabilities, where he led partnerships across the U.S. and Canada and supported a network of over 30,000 members. Brandon is currently pursuing a degree in International Affairs at Columbia University, focusing on Development and Governance.

This summer, Brandon is in Cairo, Egypt working with Afreximbank, a global financial institution committed to transforming Africa’s trade.

We're putting a spotlight on the Global Africa Gateway 2026 Summer Interns. Meet Glory Nwaugbala.

Glory is a Nigerian-American lawyer and researcher with four years of experience advising on complex cross-border transactions at leading international law firms.

She is currently pursuing graduate research at the University of Oxford on dispute resolution and governance in foreign investment environments.

Her work focuses on how multinational investment, regulatory institutions, and local stakeholders interact in emerging markets, particularly in the context of cross-border trade and development. She is interested in international trade, investment governance, and arbitration in Africa and other emerging economies.

This summer, Glory is in Cairo, Egypt working with Afreximbank, a global financial institution committed to transforming Africa’s trade.

Did you know Uganda is a top destination for butterfly watching? The country has more than 1,200 species of butterflies (including 31 endemic ones) due to its rich mix of forests and savannahs. 🇺🇬

Visitors can find diverse families including Nymphalidae, Lycaenidae, and Pieridae in various national parks and forests such as Kibale National Park, Semuliki National Park, Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, and Queen Elizabeth National Park.

We're putting a spotlight on the Global Africa Gateway 2026 Summer Interns. Meet Adore Knight.

Adore recently earned a Master of Public Administration, with a concentration in Development Practice, from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA). She is dedicated to transforming supply chain models into more sustainable human-centered design systems, while advocating for stronger environmental protections in underserved communities. Her experience includes consulting the President of French Polynesia in developing economic avenues to prevent deep sea mining in the region, creating an award-winning community engagement plan in the South Africa-USA Community Engagement Exchange Program facilitated by the South African Institute of International Affairs, and researching environmental and health disparities caused by petrochemicals at the Environmental Defense Fund.

This summer, Adore is in Lilongwe, Malawai working with ETG, a global, multisectoral player with a diverse portfolio of expertise across multiple industries, encompassing Agricultural inputs, logistics, merchandising and processing, supply chain optimization, digital transformation, and energy.

We're putting a spotlight on the Global Africa Gateway 2026 Summer Interns. Meet Kamau Haymon.

Kamau relocated to Kenya to pursue a Master’s Degree in Agribusiness at Strathmore University, where he is actively researching opportunities at the intersection of Regenerative Agriculture and Food Waste Management. He earned an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he was first introduced to Contextual Engineering, or the creative application of science, mathematical methods and societal understanding to develop place-based solutions to Engineering Grand Challenges.

This summer, Kamau is working in Cairo, Egypt with Orascom Construction PLC, a leading global engineering and construction contractor primarily focused on infrastructure, industrial, and high-end commercial projects in the Middle East, Africa, and the United States.
