Come join us for this one day workshop that will walk students through the steps of building their own proportional armature for sculpting naturalistically from the live model. Developed over many years of teaching at the Philadelphia College of Arts and lecturing at the New York Academy of Art, Walter Erlebacher’s proportional armature is a well respected and often used tool for teaching écroché (building an anatomical model) and is employed by many contemporary American figure sculptors in their studio practice. Designed to mimic the definitive characteristics universal to the human figure, this armature sets the locations of a series of subcutaneous points and articular planes that help direct proportional relationships throughout the act of sculpting the figure.
