The National Youth Orchestra of China, set to debut in Carnegie Hall in the summer of 2017, will bring together 100 of China's finest young musicians.

Debuting in the summer of 2017, the National Youth Orchestra of China (NYO-China) will bring together 100 of China's finest young orchestral musicians for the experience of a lifetime. In July, musicians selected through an online audition process will come together in the United States for two weeks of rehearsals, sectionals, and more. They will debut in Carnegie Hall on July 22 (just one day aft

er NYO-USA's July 21 concert!) and then embark on a week-long concert tour of China. 15 teaching artists, who will lead sectionals and mentor the students, have been chosen from top orchestra around the world. The students will receive additional guidance from resident advisors drawn from top music conservatories. The members of NYO-China will be empowered to not only refine their musical talent with the help of masters in the field, but also to to become cultural ambassadors on a global stage.

Audiences saw a preview of NYO-China’s 2018 Chamber Series on Monday night at an event hosted by the Yale Center Beijing. The event, which was live streamed to over 140,000 viewers online, featured stunning performances from NYO-China’s students, as well as captivating speeches from Chinese composer Ye Xiaogang, Dean of the Yale School of Music Robert Blocker, and our very own Qing Li. This week, our students are back in rehearsal to prepare for their formal debut on Saturday!

NYO-China takes a weekend break from its busy rehearsal schedule to explore some fun sights in Beijing. We visited the Beijing aquarium, attended an opera at the National Center for the Performing Arts, and worked as a team to solve an escape room puzzle. Next up, another week of rehearsals! And then our performances in Beijing, Shanghai, and Qingdao!
