They asked Adélaïde Carton: "When did you Librairie Le Feu Follet open and what do you specialize in?"

She said: "The director and founder Pascal Antoine opened its doors in 1998 and started mainly dealing with 19th-20th century literature. At the time of my arrival things had grown into a bustling bookshop and I first worked with literary manuscripts and letters, as well as a monumental Description de l’Egypte. Since then I have evolved into a kind of jack-of-all-trades and thankfully receive invaluable help from my seasoned colleagues."

A look back at the 2026 ! 🌊⛴️💥

brought an impressively assembled scroll that portrays the second American expedition to Japan (February-March 1854), led by Commodore Perry; much of it is focused on the American vessels that anchored menacingly off the coast.

Seven of the nine ships in the American fleet are carefully portrayed, with notes on the estimated numbers of cannons and crewmembers. Steam-powered ships, with black smoke gushing from the stacks and rows of powerful cannons, shocked the Japanese, most of whom had never seen such a demonstration of advanced military technology. The observations in this scroll must have been crucial to inform the decision-making of Japanese officials.

Looking back at this year's , exhibited a group of mid-1950s works on paper by famed fashion photographer Guy Bourdin.

Executed at the dawn of his decades-long collaboration with Vogue, these playful mixed-media works display the Surrealist influence of Bourdin’s mentor Man Ray, as well as the visual style that would come to distinguish his narrative approach to fashion photography.

At this year’s New York International Antiquarian Book Fair, we were thrilled to welcome with a remarkable piece of presidential history: an original, hand-colored Republican political chart from the 1860 campaign featuring Abraham Lincoln and his running mate, Hannibal Hamlin.

It was this very image of Lincoln that 11-year-old Grace Bedell saw before writing to the presidential candidate with a now-famous suggestion: grow a beard. Lincoln initially questioned whether doing so would seem like an affectation, but ultimately took her advice, forever changing the face we associate with the 16th president.

Abraham Lincoln Book Shop brought the chart to NYIABF alongside an extraordinary collection of three letters written decades later by Bedell herself, recounting her correspondence with Lincoln and the story that became an unlikely footnote in American history.

One of the standout highlights at this year's New York International Antiquarian Book Fair was this extraordinary 1843 Shaker manuscript presented by dewolfe_wood.

Transcribed at New Lebanon, New York during the Shaker Era of Manifestation, the manuscript preserves divine revelations believed to have been received through spiritual inspiration, offering a rare glimpse into the daily life, beliefs, and traditions of one of America's most fascinating communal societies.

A remarkable piece of American religious and cultural history and a perfect example of the museum-quality material that makes the New York International Antiquarian Book Fair such an extraordinary event.

One story that stopped visitors in their tracks at this year's New York International Antiquarian Book Fair:

Presented by Christian White Rare Books, A Trip to America is a remarkable handwritten travel diary created by Edward F. Ventris following a four-week journey to New York in the summer of 1903. It's a time capsule filled with nearly 7,500 words alongside postcards, menus, newspaper clippings, tickets, maps, business cards, and other ephemera collected along the way.

Ventris vividly captures the excitement of arriving in a rapidly modernizing New York, marveling at the city's soaring skyscrapers, bustling streets, elevated railways, Coney Island, the Brooklyn Bridge, and the cultural contrasts between Britain and America.

It's discoveries like this that make the New York International Antiquarian Book Fair such an extraordinary place where history is brought to life.

First published in 1705, the work remains one of the most celebrated achievements in the history of natural history illustration.
