Museum of the Moving Image advances the understanding, enjoyment, and appreciation of the art, history, technique, and technology of film, television, and digital media. Accessible, innovative, and forward-looking, the Museum presents exhibitions, education programs, significant moving-image works, and interpretive programs, and maintains a collection of moving-image related artifacts. , the Museum serves a diverse public at its New York City home and online, and provides leadership in its field. Attendance numbers approximately 250,000 visitors each year, including 60,000 school children (pre-pandemic numbers).

RIP Dolly Parton (1946–2026).

Already a successful musician upon 9 TO 5’s release in 1980, Parton not only made her big screen debut but also received an Oscar nomination for the film’s theme song which she wrote and performed.

The final weekend of See It Big: 70mm is upon us, August 28–30! Our signature screenings of Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY are sold out (some standby tickets may be available), but you can still get tickets for Stanley Kramer’s epic 1963 comedy IT’S A MAD, MAD, MAD, MAD WORLD and Brian De Palma’s acclaimed Prohibition-era thriller THE UNTOUCHABLES, which garnered Sean Connery an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.

Though it’s one of the most frequently adapted works in the history of cinema, HAMLET had never been filmed in its complete unabridged version—until Kenneth Branagh went about the task for this lavish, star-studded 1996 production.

This Saturday, Aug. 1, at 6:30 p.m., join us for the New York premiere of THE PROJECTIONIST, the latest film from maverick indie director Alexandre Rockwell (In the Soup) with Rockwell joined by actors Vondie Curtis-Hall, Kasi Lemmons, Karyn Parsons, Kevin Corrigan, and David Proval, and cinematographer Sam Motamedi — all in person!

The film unfolds like a B-movie film noir, its grimy world poetically captured in grainy black-and-white and populated by the expressive faces of its world-weary characters. Part of our ongoing series Art & Craft and moderated by programmer David Schwartz.

This Sunday, A24 and MoMI celebrate the enduring legacy of Anthony Bourdain with a pair of food-centric films praised by Bourdain himself, RATATOUILLE and TAMPOPO—followed by a special advance screening of Matt Johnson's new biopic, TONY!

We're proud to present the first public screening of the film in Queens, the borough Bourdain championed as “an enchanted wonderland, an international crossroads, a stewpot of neighborhoods filled with the languages, cultures, traditions, and flavors of many lands."
