THE SOUND AND THE FURY is Elevator Repair Service's staging of the “Benjy Chapter” of William Faulkner's The Sound and the Fury, one of the most infamously complex and profoundly beautiful passages in American literature. Like their internationally renowned production of Gatz, the play is not a conventional adaptation, but instead a verbatim staging of the first chapter of the novel. Presented wtih humor, pathos, high-energy choreography and the radical commitment of a wildly versatile ensemble, ERS’s The Sound and The Fury transforms this literary tour de force into an utterly unique theatrical event. Hailed by The New York Times as “A magical opportunity” and The New Yorker as “A great work” the 2008 production returns May 14, 2015 for a run at The Public Theater. ELEVATOR REPAIR SERVICE
