Kerson returns to Taipei this August for two performances with the Taipei Symphony Orchestra and conductor Rebecca Tong, featuring programs that celebrate both contemporary innovation and iconic twentieth-century repertoire.

On August 8, Kerson performs Khachaturian’s virtuosic Violin Concerto alongside the world premiere of Ching-Shan Chang’s Echoes of Taipei, commissioned by the Taipei Symphony Orchestra, and Rachmaninoff’s exhilarating Symphonic Dances. On August 9, he joins musicians of the Taipei Symphony Orchestra for Philip Glass’s Violin Concerto No. 2, “American Four Seasons” paired with Piazzolla’s vibrant The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires.

Giancarlo Guerrero leads the Grant Park Orchestra and Chorus in Mozart’s soul-stirring Requiem, left incomplete at the time of the composer’s premature death at 35. Written during the height of the AIDS crisis, John Corigliano’s Symphony No. 1 is another requiem of sorts, memorializing friends and colleagues lost to the disease.

Kerson Leong joins an exceptional roster of artists for Continental Drifts, ChamberFest West’s fifth annual festival celebrating music that journeys across continents, cultures, and centuries. Across five days of performances, Kerson appears in four concerts, bringing his signature virtuosity to repertoire ranging from Bach and Ysaÿe to Brahms, Copland, Widmann, and Schubert.

Highlights include the solo opening of 300 Years of Groove, featuring works by Bach, Tárrega, and Ysaÿe, as well as performances in Miguel del Águila’s Clocks, Copland’s Appalachian Spring, Widmann’s 180 Beats Per Minute, and Schubert’s beloved Trout Quintet alongside an outstanding international ensemble.
