We heard the news about the passing of Sam Wright with deep regret. Our hearts go out to Amanda and the Wright family for their great loss. Not only was Sam a great and talented Artist, but he was a generous, warm and caring human being. We have lost one of our great talents. Rest in peace, joy and song, Sam! You will still continue to spread joy in this world as you watch down on us! With great love and sadness, Alexa and Brian and all of us here at Pulse Ensemble Theatre.

At this viery difficult time for so many people, we wish you all the best!!! Peace and love in your hearts.

THE NATIONAL BLACK THEATRE presents
THE JUBILEE YEAR 2020/21
Pulse Ensemble Theatre is honored to be named a
"CULTURAL ARCHITECT" IN THIS FESTIVAL!

Cultural Architect Nomination:
The JUBILEE is a celebration that honors the work some artists and cultural institutions have been engaged in for many years in our field. The JUBILEE created the distinction "Cultural Architects" as our way of uplifting, highlighting, and amplifying the folks who have been manifesting the desire of the JUBILEE in one way or another over the past 20+ years.
Cultural Architects are our teachers, mentors, peers, and elders. They have worked to unite, uplift, and undo. They have encouraged and enriched. These folks, who Pastor Mike A. Walrond, from FCBC, calls “Cultural Architects,” “inspire generations to reimagine their lives and see themselves differently.” To paraphrase Pastor Mike, they have supported people to see what they might not have seen, believe what they might have believed, change what they want to change.
What if there was a yearlong, nationwide theatre festival featuring work generated by those who have historically been excluded--including but not limited to artists of color, Native American and Indigenous and First Nations artists, women, non-binary and gender non-conforming artists, LGBTQIA2+ artists, Deaf artists, and artists with disabilities.

THANK YOU, WE ARE HONORED AND THRILLED TO PARTICIPATE.

NELLY is nominated for BEST PLAY, BEST DIRECTOR, BEST ACTORS, BEST COSTUMES!!

R&J is a "hot pick" for the weekend in the New York Post!
“You have big feet!” Connie Leung who is standing next to Wai-Chung derided. “I beg you’re a size 8.5” “My shoes are just perfect for my feet.” She says admiringly at her own flawlessly tied white tennis shoes.” “Big feet means big wealth; one day you will have a lot of money, Wai-Chung.“ Eileen consoles her friend. “Nobody is talking to you, Japanese Money.” Snaps Connie. “My name is Eileen Yen, get that? Eileen Yen says indignantly. You want me to write it down on a piece of paper so you can read it like Mrs. Mao?” Eileen stands up in front of Connie and demands her to say her name correctly. Connie pushes Eileen away. “You stay away from me, you Japanese ¥en.” “Call me that name one more time, ‘Puffer fish’; I will report to the Dean that you cheated on your ‘English Dictation test.’” Eileen stands herself tall in front of Connie. “Eileen ¥en, I don’t know what you are talking about. You, you, get out of my way.” Connie pushes Eileen aside and stomps out of the changing room. “Hey, stop pushing my friend around, puffer fish.” Wai-Chung calls after Connie. “Yeah, be careful with those stinging spines of yours, they really hurt.” Eileen and Wai-Chung giggle as Connie Leung slams the changing room door, followed by Alicia Ong and Amy Lok, “Hey, wait up.” The bell rings. Eileen quickly dumps her school uniform in her tote and runs out with Wai-Chung to the basketball court. “Here’s your floor mat, take that and lay it in the middle of the sport court.” Says Mrs. Mao as the girls walk by the equipment room next to the changing room. “OK, everybody line up in lines of tens.” Quickly, five lines of girls are formed. “OK, spread out at least two feet from each other on both sides. Begin ten lunges!” “Roll your shoulders. Shake your hands. Lift your feet to your waist, ten lefts, and ten rights. Ready for your five laps, Go!” Mrs. Mao blows her whistle, and off the girls, jogging around the basketball court. “Beep! Beep! Run not walk!” Howls Mrs. Mao. She glances at her stop watch, and barks, “Too slow, girls, speed up your pace, or you need to run ten laps!” With that, the girls hasten their pace and run with all their might. “That’s it; keep it up; one more round.” “Beep, beep, beep!” Mrs. Mao stops her stop-watch and says, “Good warm up, now line up.” Fifty teenage girls in white polo shirts and white short line up in five queues, waiting for Mrs. Mao’s next command. Mrs. Mao clears her throat and begins, “Today you are learning how to stand on a ‘balancing beam’. First I am going to do a demo, and pay attention to each step that I take so that you can repeat afterward.” With that Mrs. Mao walks herself to the front of a line of gymnastic mats, takes off her shoes, and sprinkles white powder on her hands. She begins with a few big strides, then her strides turns into running, as soon as she steps on the springboard she bounces off, and leaps up in midair, flips backward and lands on the balancing beam with her hands first. Her two feet split open in the air, followed by one cartwheel, two cartwheels, and half a cartwheel she is off the balance beam and flings herself in the air. Fifty pairs of eyes gaze at their P.E. teacher as she lands on the floor mat with a “thud”. While the girls are still mesmerized and stunned by their PE teacher’s performance, Mrs. Mao dusts the powder off her hands, and put her shoes on. She looks at the jaw-dropping faces of the girls and says, “Now, your turn!” When they heard that, horrors spread over the girls; they stand frozen and waiting for someone to take the first hit. “Any volunteer?” Mrs. Mao urges again. Connie Leung takes off her hair pin and pretends to fix her hair. She jabs the sharp end at Eileen’s elbow, and Eileen shrieks, “Ai...yaw!”. “Alright, Eileen Yen, you are first then.” Mrs. Mao points her finger at Eileen. “Come up over here.” Eileen uses her right hand to massage around her left elbow, to relieve the sudden sharp pain, and is shocked to hear Mrs. Mao calling her name. “Mu, mu, me?”
Thanks so much to Brian Richardson and Alexa Kelly for bringing "W. E. B. DuBois: A Man For All Times" to Dr. DuBois's hometown of Great Barrington, for the first time! We loved it!
