Michigan Senate contest remains tight as Rogers holds slight edge over El-Sayed.
LANSING, Mich. — Republican nominee Mike Rogers maintains a narrow lead over Democrat Abdul El-Sayed in the race for Michigan’s open U.S. Senate seat, according to recent polling averages.
Rogers, a former congressman, has drawn support by emphasizing national security and conservative priorities. El-Sayed, a physician and former Detroit and Wayne County public health official who won the Democratic primary, has focused his campaign on health care and economic issues.
Aggregated surveys, including those from EPIC-MRA and Mitchell Research, show Rogers ahead by roughly 1–2 points in a competitive contest. The race has attracted national attention as both parties view the seat as pivotal for Senate control. No major independent verification has confirmed campaign claims linking El-Sayed to specific high euthanasia rates at Detroit animal facilities during his public health tenure. Voters will decide the outcome in November.

Senate Republicans adjourn for recess without advancing the SAVE America Act.
WASHINGTON — Senate Republicans left Washington early Saturday for a five-week August recess after failing to pass the SAVE America Act, legislation that would require proof of citizenship for voter registration and photo identification to vote in federal elections.
A narrower voter ID measure offered by Sen. Jon Husted (R-Ohio) failed overnight on a 52-46 vote, short of the 60 votes needed to overcome a filibuster. The full bill, repeatedly blocked by Democratic opposition and limited Republican support, has not cleared the chamber despite pressure from President Trump.
Majority Leader John Thune acknowledged the lack of sufficient votes. Some senators, including Mike Lee of Utah, had urged delaying the recess until the measure advanced, but the chamber adjourned by unanimous consent.
Supporters of the legislation argue election integrity should have been a top priority for the Republican majority. The Senate is scheduled to reconvene September 14, when further consideration is expected.

Joe Biden stood up and admitted he can't walk, can't speak smoothly, and can't debate like he used to. But then he claimed the one thing he still knows how to do is tell the truth. After years of fabricated stories, exaggerated records, and outright denials about his own condition, that might be the biggest lie of all.

The man who told us the border was secure, the economy was booming, and his son did nothing wrong now wants credit for honesty. You can't make this stuff up.
