Today it is exactly two and a half years sonce Gene was killed. On Monday, the murderer had to listen to me tell him what a wonderful human being Eugene Patrick Schroeder was and how Gene continues to touch and affect those who knew and loved him. Was he listening, I dont lnow. After I spoke, and prior to being sentenced, the coward was given a chance to speak. He didn’t. He didn’t offer an apology or even say anything. At that, and despite the strong disagreement from the DA’s office and the Office of Probation, the judge sentenced him to five years probation and a $3000 fine. Yup, that’s was the decision. He took someone’s precious life and ruined mine and received five years probation and a fine. How do you reconcile that? The judge tried to explain his decision to me after I told him I disagree with it, but I already knew what he was gonna say because the DA told me. The judge was at least sympathetic when he spoke to me.
I want to thank my dear friends Josh Christensen, K**e Williams, Neil Small and my attorney Dan S. who were there in person with me and without them, there is no way I would have made it through that. I’d also like to thank Bobby Pretti and the folks from Families For Safe Streets for all of their help. And I want to thank those who reached to me for your love and support. I’ve wanted to reach out to so many of you who personally sent kind words and I will attempt to do that very soon. Please don’t think I have forgotten about that. xoxoxx
