Theatre Askew is a 501(c)(3) organization that was founded to explore a radical new approach to the representation of "queerness" onstage—one that embraces a spectrum of relationships and identities. We propose a definition of queerness that serves as a metaphor for ALL those who stand outside of, challenge, or reject mainstream consumerist models of gender or sexuality. This is the community for whom we make our work—gay and straight. Askew is divided into three main components: our main stage presentations; the Drafting Table, our developmental program for new work; and the Theatre Askew Youth Performance Experience (TAYPE), an after-school educational theatre program for le***an, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning (LGBTQ) and allied youth, ages 14 to 23.
