Composer Spotlight: Matt Gould
What is your earliest musical memory? This morning it was when my baby was screaming at 640am. I was awoken from a dream and ushered into a better real life. There is nothing a wonderful as being a father and hearing my baby’s voice. And even when my baby is sad, he is a reminder of the beauty and ephemerality that music can capture.
Who or what inspires you? My family and friends.

We'll see you on Sunday! Thanks, Broadwayworld!

In 2018, the idea for was sparked. Much of the inspiration for this project stems from an incomplete American Songbook-many voices are missing and stories are unheard. In lieu of our current political climate, we are deeply struck by the hostility aimed at dividing our country and turn...

Performer Spotlight: Aisha Jackson
What is your earliest musical memory: Hearing my mom sing in church. She had such a beautiful, clear tone and I felt like she could sing anything. Like her voice had no limit. I also remember my family gathering around the telephone to sing “Happy Birthday” to our friends and family on their special day. All six of us would sing together and even my dog would join in!
Who or what inspires you? My family inspires and encourages me. Their support means the world to me and I do all I can to make them proud. Young aspiring artists also inspire me. I feel like it is my responsibility to break barriers so that they will have more opportunities than I did. I also want to create work that will let them know their voices and their stories are important.

What is your earliest musical memory: Music has been a part of my life since I left the womb, but one that sticks out...is Lesley Ann Warren’s version of Cinderella...I had several hospital visits and surgeries when I was little, and she (along with Pat Carroll) quickly became my friend’s in the hospital rooms.
Who or what inspires you? The decrepit. And the arctic north.

What is your earliest musical memory: When I was maybe two or three years old, I remember laying in my crib, singing lullabies at night with the feeling like I was singing my parents and my older brother to sleep with the soothing sound of my voice. Even as a young child (I’m not even sure I was talking much yet), I felt the healing power of music in my bones. My mom always told me how I could sing before I could talk. It’s comforting to know I’m still connected to that part of myself. Music heals.
Who or what inspires you? My inspiration comes from the incredible people I choose to surround myself with who, like me, believe in the magic of this City and in their own power to create the lives they’ve always dreamt of. They are my chosen tribe. We all need people to cheer for because they’ll always cheer for us right back, and I’m incredibly grateful for this.
