⁠Tom Bianchi's Fire Island Polaroids are both art and contemporary history. They give us insight into a gay world before it was changed forever by the AIDS catastrophe. ⁠

A few years ago I was lucky enough to spend a weekend in the very beach house that is featured in some of the Polaroids in this series. The magic of this place and its history lives on in Bianchi's images.⁠

Happy Birthday, Tom!

Tom would have turned 101 today. With his unique and immediately recognizable art, Tom of Finland inspired millions of gay men during his lifetime. He gave them the strength to embrace their homos*xuality and explore their masculinity with pride.

Today, his star shines brighter than ever, thanks to the relentless work of the Tom of Finland Foundation. At a time when new forms censorship and prudery are on the rise, in social media and society at large, Tom continues to be a role model for countless artists who refuse to have their work banned because it celebrates man-on-man s*x unapologetically. Tom still gives them – and us all – strength and inspiration.

brings to life the story of the icon whose erotic depictions of men influenced many artists, including Robert Mapplethorpe and Bruce Weber.
