Based on “Jonathan Livingston Seagull” by Richard Bach, “A Skate Play” is a story of how a seagull named Luna finds freedom through flight. Skateboarders represent the flight of birds while performing in tandem with actors, integrating skate choreography with theatrical dialogue and storytelling. I had the honor of performing alongside as “Anthony Seagull”, a rebellious and bright young bird who enjoys experimenting with flight.
At the beginning of rehearsals, I was reeling from a series of difficult changes and generally felt anxious, afraid, and disconnected. Participating in this production taught me that when we grow attached to fear and over-identify with trauma and (perceived) limitations, we prevent ourselves from experiencing true freedom, which is being fully present in the HERE and NOW.
Endless gratitude to Creator and Director , Producer .safinya, Assistant Producer , and Skate Director and our incredible cast and team, who worked tirelessly to bring this iteration of A Skate Play to life. While our journey together was filled with challenges and surprises, it was also full of genuine connection and growth.
