Join us next Saturday, June 6th, for a historical weaving workshop!

Weaving was an important trade for colonial women. They utilized wool yarn and linen thread to makes clothes, bed sheets, and other fabrics for use around the home or to sell. George Washington's suit was made of "homespun" fabric like this as a protest against British goods! Try your hand at weaving using yarn from the King Manor collection and a simple cardboard loom. Make something fun to take home, or just get in some practice!

Admission is free for all ages! Tickets are not required but lets our staff prepare for your arrival! https://www.eventbrite.com/e/1978186757844?aff=oddtdtcreator

Happening tomorrow!

Join us at King Manor Museum for an interactive public program accompanying the book club for Tao Leigh Goffe’s Dark Laboratory. Author will join us for a discussion on how she blended nature and science writing along with memoir to write an expansive investigation on colonialism’s role in climate change. This is the conclusion of our King Manor x Melting Metropolis reading circle.

After the discussion, Goffe will lead a creative writing workshop on memory, water, and climate. Attendees will reflect and document what it means to live in Southeast Queens during the climate crisis and what actions we can take to safeguard our future.

This event is twofold: attendees will have the option to either join the book discussion, the writing workshop, or both! You do not need to be a member of the book club to join either event.

This program is free and open to the public. Attendees can join in-person or online.

Register for an in-person spot on our Eventbrite: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/1983121535898?aff=oddtdtcreator

Come see King Manor's newest exhibit "The Bicentennial Revisited: The Spirit of 76?"

In 1976, Americans celebrated 200 years of independence with patriotic objects and imagery everywhere, while debates over civil rights, gender equality, LGBTQ visibility, war, and national identity showed that beneath the festivities, “The Spirit of ’76” sparked bigger questions about freedom, identity, and whose voices belong in the American story.
