Smalling’s painting practice examines how cultural hierarchies and taboos shape identity, through the visual language of the Old Masters. Smalling approaches the canvas as a diagnostic instrument—a site to unravel the invisible architectures of shame, desire, and social compliance.

Known for transforming everyday materials and environments into self-contained ecosystems, ‘s practice explores the invisible forces that shape our world — from gravity, magnetism, and humidity to social and emotional currents that flow between people and spaces.
I love this artists work so much. I saw her work for the first time in the Venice Biennale, and now this is her first solo exhibition with one of my favorite galleries in the world;

Galerie Lelong has a new solo exhibition by the esteemed sculptor Ursula von Rydingsvard, of recent works in the artist’s signature medium, cedar, alongside a selection of new drawings. Known for her monumental sculptures that are grand in scale but intimate in their details, von Rydinsgvard takes a highly intuitive, personal approach to her work, her dedication to the act of making paramount in her practice. Of her drive, the artist explains “[I make art] because I don’t want to be doing anything with my life—that the building of my art work feels like the most consequential thing I could be doing with my time.” Through her painstaking processes of cutting and assembling, standardized industrial wood beams are transformed, reinvigorated with organic, supple energy and emotional charge.

explorations of scale, color, volume, and materiality unfold through a focused presentation of mirror works created between 2010 and the present. Building on the artist’s enduring investigation of spatial illusion, these sculptures challenge viewers to experience their de-stabilized presence within reflective and immersive environments. and

Don’t miss this exhibition! Last day up is the 28th. I’m not a huge fan of who Jeff Koons is tbh. But this group of work ( which his numerous assistants created and for which only he gets credit) is pretty extraordinary.
Porcelain Series, a groun of new and recent sculptures and paintings “by Jeff Koons”. (He should really give credit to the artists that work with him!)
This is the first dedicated exhibition of the artist’s Porcelain series.
Exploring conceptual paradigms from the everyday to the ancient, these luxurious icons and elaborate tableaux engage us in a metaphysical dialogue with the history of visual culture. His large-scale Porcelain sculptures are made of mirror-polished stainless steel that is coated in layers of transparent color. Modeled on eighteenth- to early twentieth-century porcelain figurines, the series features characters from classical mythology such as Diana and Venus; animals, including a stag paired with a dog; and lovers in a timeless embrace.
In these sculptures, Koons makes use of high-end contemporary production techniques to explore established notions of beauty.

Gladstone Gallery presents 11 new paintings by Alex Katz inspired by Henri Matisse’s The Red Studio (1911). Each work is environmental in scale, using only a single orange on a white ground, and depicts the road in Maine where he has lived and worked every summer for almost 70 years. The view down this road is now so familiar to Katz that it has become embedded in his subconscious.

Lisson Gallery presents its first solo exhibition by Tishan Hsu. For over four decades, Hsu has investigated the advancing intersection between the human body and technological systems, developing a singular material language that blends digital imagery, industrial surfaces, and biomorphic forms. His latest show features a range of wall-based pieces, sculptural LED screens, and large-scale visual environments, all of which reflect a heightened engagement with both computational and medical infrastructures.

Hsu’s painting practice seems far from traditional, although his early artistic training reflected many of the high Western canons and skills; ranging from the study of Renaissance glazing techniques to the epic landscapes of the Hudson River School and even the stippling and coloration of French Impressionism. Further studies in architecture, film and photography are also evident in the hybridised paintings made since the mid-1980s. This influence continues in this latest series of combinatory painted reliefs, which blend UV printing, illusionistic paint effects and prosthetic protuberances (silicone additions or cavities).
