The poem in the cartouche reads;

The moon glimmers like bright snow and plum blossoms appear like reflected stars ah! the golden mirror of the moon passes overhead as fragrance from the jade chamber fills the garden

This set of six works comprise the first half of what was intended to be a series of twelve prints, however, it appears that production was halted after the sixth print was issued. Extant original folders provide the series title and may have identified the specific months associated with each design.

In 1924 Toyonari self-published a group of ten prints that expanded his range beyond kabuki portraits with an untitled set that included images of beauties, landscapes, still-life, and bird-and-flower subjects.

The prints explored a greater abstraction with bold colorization, in this composition embracing an emerging modern woodblock print aesthetic emphasizing the black outline and flat planes of color.

Katsura, Kyoto (B), 1955

Saito depicted the views of the Katsura Imperial Villa in Kyoto with at least fifteen individual woodblock print compositions, all titled KATSURA KYOTO followed by a letter of the Roman alphabet within parenthesis. The earliest composition (A) was released in 1955, and the last, (O), was released in 1965.
