Big congratulations to cast, crew, and production team and our wonderful audiences for this beautiful show! Join us for one last performance of Alice by Heart: US musical Sunday, March 15 at 2pm
Performances approximately 90 minutes without an intermission

Dress rehearsal photos by Val Aberle ‘27 Assistant Director and member of the Excellence in the Arts program!

When the Blitz forces teenager Alice Spencer and her best friend Alfred into an underground tube shelter in London during World War II, Alice refuses to surrender to fear. Clutching their beloved copy of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, she invites Alfred and others to follow her down the rabbit hole. As Wonderland’s eccentric characters take shape around them, their imagined journey becomes a tender, sometimes heartbreaking refuge: a story of first love, grief, and the stubborn, saving power of the imagination.

Costume Designer: Kim Griffin
Technical Director & Scenic/Set Design: Daniel Hogan
Lighting Design: David Higham

Alice by Heart contains references to war, simulated explosions, and depictions of drug use.

Art & Identity: Inner/ Outer Self-portraits
Art work by Sasha A. ‘32, Winston T. ‘32, Matthew A. ‘32, Zara G. ‘32
Teacher: André Batista
In this project, Grade 6 students explored the duality of identity by creating portraits that reflect both their outward appearance and their inner selves. They sought to develop a composition that contrasts how the world perceives them with the often-hidden aspects of their identity. Through this process, students experimented with symbolism-using color, objects, scenery, and mark-making-to represent their internal worlds. Some bravely shared personal anxieties and challenges, embracing these as meaningful parts of who they are.
Their vulnerability and self-expression deserve to be celebrated. Beyond artistic skills, this project fostered deeper self-awareness and empathy, encouraging students to see and honor the complexities within themselves and others.

“Alices…” of the Past: 1996 Lower School campus production of “Through the Looking Glass: And What Alice Found There” performed on a tiny stage where the library is now! Great photos of the boys in the playful “daisy patch” costumes.
Photos from the archives of LS campus in the early transition years of being part of Poly, when the campus was called The Poly Prep-Woodward School. Production directed by now Head of Arts, Michael S. Robinson (shown in photos 5 & 6 with long hair!) when they stepped in to play the role Humpty Dumpty for an absent cast member!
Looking back as we prepare for this weekend’s US musical of the hauntingly beautiful Alice by Heart performing this weekend: Alice by Heart: US musical performs Friday, March 13 & Saturday, March 14 at 7pm, and Sunday, March 15 at 2pm

Foundations In Studio Art: Still Life Painting Studies
Art work by Vito Price-Thomas ‘29, Cristine Goberdhan ‘29, Kiana Freeman ‘28, Kara Shum ‘28
Teacher: Daniel Herwitt
As part of their artistic journey, students are immersed in the foundational art technique of still life. Through painting obiects from selected photographic references and exploring diverse patterns, students hone their observational skills and artistic precision. This process enables them to develop a sophisticated understanding of composition, lighting, and shadow, while also encouraging them to experiment with arrangement, perspective, and surface texture. By analyzing and recreating a variety of subject matter, students cultivate the ability to capture both realism and expressive qualities in their work, deepening their overall fluency in visual language.
