This beat is Wicked 🤩 and if you recognize the musical interval (harmonizing notes) as a “fifth interval” congrats you have good ears. Anyone who wants to practice ear training could hum or sing this pattern (same as the first two notes of twinkle twinkle little star) … and would be achieving a melody of roots and fifths. “Ohh-root , Wee-fifth ohh- root … yoo-fifth ho- root” For science teachers who want a better understanding of the relationships between roots and fifths we could use math to break it down. All roots and subsequent octaves (higher and lower versions of the same note) would simply be the mathematical doubles of octaves as 2x and 1/2 of the root frequency. So 100hz has an octave at 200hz 400hz 800hz etc.. even 50hz and 25hz if divided backward. The fifth interval fits in as mathematically and physically its frequency exists exactly between octaves. So if the root was 100hz and it’s octave was 200hz the fifth would live at 150hz. If your root and octaves lived at 200hz and 400hz our fifth interval would be at 300hz. For sound engineers in training you may recognize this phenomena in room modalities/standing waves, as all sound behaves in this musical fashion, neatly governed by the “overtone/harmonic series” a great term to Google after you read this. AND finally why why why would the halfway point between two octaves get called a fifth? Because when you hum Do Re Mi Fa Sol La Ti Do, aka a major scale in music theory speak… you end up with 8 notes and if Do at the beginning and Do at the end are the same note and Octaves of each other at @ 100hz and 200hz respectively….then what we cal Sol, or the Fifth interval or in this case 150hz is just the frequency of the fifth jump from the root note towards the next octave but directly in the middle mathematically and LESS the perceived physical location. Teslas 369 actually deals with this phenomena as 3/6 being multiples or octaves can have a 9 placed on top representing the fifth between octaves… to act as both a forward multiplication and backwards division mechanism. Proof the universe is made up of an dynamic exchange of opposite moving energies…and hot take Wicked was cooler on Broadway 🎭

Best part of this is the ending so stick around. Been such a fun week tracking Christmas singles for the years end as the sweaters come out and the gyro plates never end, neither does the laughter. 🤓🎤😂

7 years in this space and I never noticed the kick drum reflects in the monitor, we’re gettin artsy in here 🤔

.mx on half inch tape. As the fall blusters blow in the it’s shaping up to be a heartwarming holiday season filled with all sorts of fun and whimsical surprises. For a machine 10 years older then me that has not had a proper service in 10 years the ole Fostex b16 multitrack reel to reel really held up and delivered. 2026 will mark the permanently return of Tape at New Space, and we’re excited.

Haven’t opened up the ole SCA rack for awhile. So many fantastic flavours of sound 😂 Somewhat if a whose who of famous circuits, transformers and op amps, in 8 discrete preamps all to give sweet color to whatever runs through them. You are hearing some of them on the drums and the mix bus of this very track which was recorded and mixed in house 👩‍🍳

The N***s, Stalin and even the Vatican have banned it. In its relatively short life, the saxophone has attracted a whole lot of controversy.
