Courtney Ffrench, founder of Vissi Dance Theater, is an alumnus of Queens College. He has been an educator, a social worker and is also an author, playwright, and screenwriter. Of the many hats he has worn, his greatest love remains with dance. As a dancer, Courtney has toured with the legendary Irene Cara and Lisa Lisa /Cult Jam. Courtney trained in several arenas, including the Ailey School and Forces of Nature workshops, but most prominently in the underground dance clubs. In the underground club world, Courtney has worked and danced with legends such as Willie Ninja, Keith Williams, Randy Conner, Barbara Tucker and Archie Burnett.
Courtney has always been interested in social justice and the human condition. As the Artistic Director and choreographer of Vissi Dance Theater, Courtney has created dances that touch on subjects of lynching, domestic abuse, war, Love, depression, slavery, religion, redemption and awakenings. His work has toured Japan, Italy and his home island of Jamaica.
