As I was walking back from my last interview at the Empire State Building, there was a moment where it seemed like time had stopped for a second and I didn't know where I was. I kept thinking about how I didn't belong there. About a kid from a Mexican public school who could not understand what was happening around him.
All my life I have been trying to defy the odds, to push myself to become a better person not so much for myself, but for my parents and my sisters who have invested and sacrificed so much for me. And this past week seemed like the end result of that.
This past week, I had the opportunity to meet amazing people from all around the U.S. and Canada who have similar goals and love the fashion industry as much as I do. In addition, I had lunch with the president of Macy's and learned about his career and life, and how he's managed to get to where he currently is. I also met alumni and other industry professionals who were always eager to have conversations and share their ideas with me.
I had never felt so happy and confident about my future.
It’s always hard to clearly picture the prize at the of the journey throughout this whole process, and at times that can be discouraging. This week showed that my journey has just started and that I just need to be patient, persistent, and always happy with who I am a person.
I am grateful for everyone, my friends, my family, and the YMA Fashion Scholarship Fund for being part of who I am, and for adding beauty into my life.
P.S. Thank you, Ryan Seacrest and FSF for this clean suit. @ New York Hilton Midtown
