In 2021, we had the honor of filming with the late Warachal Eileen Faison during Marcus Jansen’s () survey exhibition, “Two Decades of Relevance,” at .

Warachal speaks here about her connection to Falling Statue #2—a piece that deconstructs the myth of the “Western hero” and confronts the painful reality of colonial and confederate history. It’s a reminder that art isn’t just for viewing; it’s a tool for deconstruction and truth-telling.
Rest in power, Warachal. Thank you for your vision and your voice. 🙏🏽☀️

Special thanks to .

It’s all about honoring the community that fuels our spirit. We’ve just left a free Richard Beavers Gallery tote bag hanging outside our doors—and tucked inside, a stunning print of Fred Mathews’ Love and Cherish is waiting for a new home.

The mission is simple: Grab the bag. Secure the art. .

At , we believe art is a bridge, not a barrier. We’re spreading love through the streets of Bed-Stuy by periodically leaving original gifts outside for a lucky passerby to find. No strings attached just pure appreciation for the culture.

Once it’s gone, it’s gone. Is your name on it?

Happy Mother’s Day to the women who move through life with the grace and strength captured in Desmond Beach’s “Blessed Are the Daughters Who Dance.” Just like this vibrant quilt, you have spent a lifetime stitching together the disparate pieces of our lives, the joys, the challenges, and the quiet moments into a beautiful, cohesive textile of love. Your life is a rhythmic dance of resilience, showing us how to find our own beat while honoring the rich patterns of those who came before us.

Thank you for being the thread that holds us together and the fabric of our inspiration every day. We are all so blessed to be part of the legacy mothers continue to weave.

“A mother’s love is the ultimate covering.

In Leroy Campbell’s ‘I Got You Covered’, we see the beautiful duality of motherhood: the grace of the walk and the strength of the protection. Mothers are our first teachers of strategy and survival. They hold the umbrella of wisdom over our heads, shielding us from the elements while walking us across the ‘board’ of life.

Today, we celebrate the women who ensure we never have to walk the path alone. Happy Mother’s Day to those who provide the shade, the shoes, and the soul to keep us moving forward.”

“Art is the most intimate act of war”
- Marcus A. Jansen

Marcus Antonius Jansen is an expressionist painter born in East Harlem whose work reexamines history through the perspectives most often excluded from it. Shaped by time in both the Bronx and Moenchengladbach, Germany, his paintings navigate gentrification, racial injustice, colonialism, and economic inequality, grounded in a graffiti practice that taught him early to dismantle and reimagine.

“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together” - African proverb

This collaboration brings a meaningful journey full circle. Richard Beavers first encountered Lynthia’s evocative work through a Black Art in America post years ago, sparked by a shared love for the Southern Black experience. Today, that connection is being formalized through a mutual commitment to expand Lynthia’s vibrant narratives across the country.

Founded in 2007, Richard Beavers Gallery is a Brooklyn-based contemporary art gallery committed to presenting artists whose work investigates the social, political, and cultural realities at the forefront of Black life. With a respected presence in the New York art world, the gallery brings deep collector relationships, curatorial vision, and a commitment to placing Black artists within broader national and global conversations.

Founded in 2010, Black Art in America is a leading multifaceted arts company whose mission has been documenting, preserving and promoting the contributions of the African American arts community. Through its national media reach, editorial storytelling, collector network, curated museum and corporate exhibitions, art fairs, and the BAIA Gallery and Gardens in Atlanta, Georgia. BAIA brings cultural stewardship and a powerful community-rooted platform to this partnership.

Lynthia Edwards is a multidisciplinary artist from Alexander City, Alabama, whose work serves as a soulful meditation on Black girlhood, memory, family, faith, and Southern life. Her vibrant compositions and intricate quilting patterns celebrate resilience, beauty, strength, and identity. Through her paintings, she honors the generations of women who came before her, stitching together a visual legacy that is both nostalgic and revolutionary.

From Brooklyn to Atlanta, this collaboration expands the reach, visibility, and market for Lynthia’s evocative, personal, and joyful body of work.

Welcome to the next chapter.
