Moving Picture Institute The Moving Picture Institute is a production company and talent incubator.

MPI films regularly appear in prominent film festivals, win international critical acclaim, and garner coverage from major news outlets, including the Hollywood Reporter, the New York Times, Deadline, and the Wall Street Journal. MPI Original Films include "Miss Virginia" starring Emmy-winner Uzo Aduba ("Orange Is the New Black"), "A Piece of Cake" led by Rich Sommer ("Mad Men"), and "Regulation" featuring Sunita Mana ("GLOW"). Since its founding in 2005, MPI has awarded an impressive 370 Rising Filmmaker Program fellowships and 200 Hollywood Career Launch Program internships. The MPI Original feature film MISS VIRGINIA, starring Uzo Aduba, tells the true story of Virginia Walden Ford, a Washington, DC, mother who refused to accept that a child’s ZIP code should determine the quality of their education.

After seeing her son struggle in DC’s school system, Virginia fought to give him, and thousands of other children, access to better educational options.

Two brothers are forced to work on a militia-run coca farm while secretly planning their escape. The MPI Original short film, written and directed by MPI filmmaker Trần Hoàng Calvin, follows the Clifford family, who hope to start a new life by selling their dilapidated farm. But when the discovery of an endangered bird on the property threatens to derail the sale, their son Andy must decide whether to report the bird’s presence or to shoot, shovel, and shut up.

🎬 REMNANTS is heading to the Catalina Film Festival!

The MPI Original documentary short, directed by MPI filmmaker Michael Catenacci and produced by MPI filmmaker Matt Pirrall, will screen virtually from September 25 through October 5.

REMNANTS follows a sixth-generation ranching family grappling with the legacy of the American cowboy after a devastating wildfire ravages their land. As government policies threaten their livelihood and cultural shifts cast their way of life as a thing of the past, the family must confront what it means to carry tradition forward in a rapidly changing world.
