Meet Esosa Oviasu (he/him) an understudy from 2020 who’s been performing full time this season! He was born and raised in New York and has been dancing for the past 16 years in styles such as breaking, popping, and house.

When he’s not dancing Esosa loves to watch anime, art house movies, and play DnD with his close group of friends. Against his family’s best wishes, 90% of his current diet consists of cereal, and he has shown no indication of slowing down.🍌

Esosa share, “Babel has always been something that I thought I would always aspire to and never be able to join. To say being on this cast is a dream come true honestly undersells how much this time and these people mean to me. I don’t believe the full effect that this experience has had on me has truly sunk in, but I already know this has been one of the most special times in my life.” 🚀

Today is our final day of shows in NYC. What a journey this season of the show has been. We started back in January 2020 for our first day of rehearsals (last slide), opened to rave reviews, drama desk nominations, and critics pick! Then on March 12, 2020 we had our last show and went on pause until we gloriously reopened in September 2021 to finish out our original run. We’ve said goodbye to some OG cast members, said hello to some new, changed artistic elements and navigated a pandemic.

Most importantly, we were able to continue to do this show because audiences showed up and we are forever grateful. Performing this show every night is a blessing and we thank everyone who traveled to NYC, bought a ticket, and watched this show.

As says, “New York, we love you.”

Here’s to what’s to come….stay tuned 🤫🤫

Meet Liv Battista (she/her) another original cast member from 2018 who is now a lead! She’s a native of New York City but is always dancin’ on both coasts. She grew up at Broadway Dance Center training in versatile styles to this day. Liv is proud to have trained with and personally under Bo Park, Candace Brown, Yanis Marshall and Cat Rendic. Some credits include, Marian Hill, Billie Eilish, AURORA, Cirque du Soleil, Tituss Burgess. 🌟

Some fun facts about Liv are that her dad was a world champion ballroom dancer and that she didn’t know a single person on the cast when Babel first started👀

Liv shares, “It’s hard to find the words to describe what babel means to me. It’s so much more than a show. These people have become my family with bonds and memories that will last a lifetime. Getting to share the stage with each and every week person through the years has been something so special and something I’ll never take for granted. My life has changed tremendously since Babel began, it gave me a voice and I’m so honored to continuously tell this story alongside this cast.”💜

He’s also worked with choreographers such as Kyle Hanagami, Ian Eastwood, Nappytabs, Kinjaz, Squared Division.🕺🏻

To be able to impact people’s lives and touch their hearts, as an artist, it’s the greatest thing anyone could ever ask for. And to do it with this cast of people, it’s a freaking honor.”🚀

Meet Mikey Ruiz (he/him), OG cast member from 2018. He’s a native of Colorado and started off as a bboy at age 16. Some credits include: International choreographer, America’s Got Talent, Project Home, Billie Eilish and Cirque Du Soleil.🌟

When Mikey’s not dancing he’s hanging out with family, cleaning his moms house and babysitting his nephew. Some fun facts about Mikey: He can do the whole show with no food in his stomach, just coffee and water. He’s also ordered a drink next to Dave Chappelle at a bar in Denver.🥂

Mikey shares, “Babel is not just a “show” to me. My commitment to this story is beyond words. And I try to express that within my character in every performance I do.
To every audience member who has supported myself and my cast mates, thank you.
And to my cast mates, I’m grateful.
3 years strong. Ya’ll ain’t gettin rid of me.
Peace and love.”

New Moves. New Crochet. Same Heart.

“An outstanding show that everyone should see...Offering up an emotionally complex, and deeply impactful show proving that dance, this company, and Beyond Babel, is a truly spectacular theatre experience not to be missed.” - Broadway World

Beyond Babel is a critically acclaimed new theatrical dance show created by Keone & Mari Madrid and Hideaway Circus playing in San Diego, California. The production is inspired by the classic tale of Romeo & Juliet and current social stories from all over the world. Beyond Babel is told entirely through the style of West Coast Urban Dance in a new custom built theater near Downtown San Diego.

Beyond Babel is about the division of families, friends, and a community of people as authorities decide to build a wall between them. We follow two divinely linked lovers as they reconcile with the rising tensions of a populace but in half. The show is set to a contemporary soundtrack and features a cast of twelve elite dancers. Beyond Babel also features large crochet backdrops, art installations, and yarn-based props created by artist London Kaye.

“A must see show...It could put San Diego on the map - It’s that good!” -Voice of San Diego
