This extraordinary pendant brings together a luminous fire opal with translucent plique-à-jour enamel.

Its stylized leaves and berries reveal Lalique’s fascination with Japonisme and the natural world.

The delicate enamel, suspended without a metal backing, allows light to pass through the jewel like miniature stained glass—a defining technical achievement of Art Nouveau jewelry.

Created by Tiffany & Co. in the early 1990s, this bracelet transforms the geometry of dominoes into a playful yet fabulous jewel.

Overlapping plaques of luminous mother-of-pearl and deep black jade appear to rest casually across the surface of the broad 18K gold bangle—an intricate optical illusion achieved through the art of inlaying hardstones.

Playful yet sophisticated, graphic yet remarkably fluid, it captures a particularly inventive moment in Tiffany & Co.’s modern jewelry design. Circa 1990–95.

“Danseuse” by Marcel Bouraine & Gabriel Argy-Rousseau

In Danseuse, sculptor Marcel Bouraine and master glassmaker Gabriel Argy-Rousseau transform an inherently rigid material into an illusion of movement.

The figure twists as though caught mid-dance, her drapery appearing to ripple and fall around her body.

Created in pâte de verre—a demanding technique in which glass is cast in a mold—the sculpture captures both the softness of fabric and the fluidity of the human form.

Bouraine’s composition draws on the long tradition of classical sculpture, while Argy-Rousseau’s luminous, translucent glass transforms that ancient ideal into something distinctly modern.

A meeting of sculpture and glassmaking, antiquity and Art Deco—and a figure that, somehow, still appears to move.

Impressionism, illuminated 🥀

Designed c. 1913, Tiffany Studios’ 26-inch-diameter monumental “Oriental Poppy” floor lamp transforms a field of crimson poppies into light, color, and movement. 

Glass selectors utilized “mottled,” “streaked” and “granite” glass to create an almost painterly sense of depth, while the flowers unfold across the shade in every stage of bloom.

A remarkable fusion of naturalism, Impressionism, and Art Nouveau ornament, this lamp captures Louis Comfort Tiffany’s fascination with the floral world in one of Tiffany Studios’ most evocative designs.
