Another highlight with our delightful group on our Fall for Art in NYC tour: a guided visit to the Guggenheim for Rashid Johnson: A Poem for Deep Thinkers.
Moving through the museum’s spiraling galleries, we experienced how Johnson turns abstraction into a deeply personal and political language. His work confronts themes of identity, history, and collective memory, transforming materials like shea butter, ceramic tile, and black soap into layered mosaics, paintings, and installations. His practice speaks to cultural resilience and healing, while also probing the complexities of race, belonging, and selfhood.
