In 2013 the womenswear brand, Visçera NY's designer, Sherita Cuffee created the VISÇERA NY Sewing Academy, a socio-educational program. Cuffee's mission is to keep the craft of sewing alive while empowering women and girls to understand the impact of their talents in their respective communities. By teaching sewing as a skill, a trade, and a passion, Cuffee incites her students to use sewing as a means to become financially independent. The VISÇERA NY Sewing Academy also offers classes, workshops, and summer camps for profit to support similar workshops in low-income communities and non-profit organizations.
