Ataturk Chorus brings together a diverse group of avid Turkish music lovers under the directorship of founder Nedim Katgi. The chorus comprises vocalists and instrumentalists who are mostly full-time professionals, but whose interests intersect in learning and cherishing Turkish music. Nedim Katgi, a renowned musician in Turkey and New York, is a graduate of Istanbul Technical University State Con
servatory of Turkish Music with concentrations in Violin and Oud Vocal, and a former professor in the same institution (teaching solfège, harmony and Classical Turkish Music). Ataturk Chorus welcomes people with an interest in Turkish music who would like to advance their vocal or instrumental skills and help the ensemble showcase its repertoire through concerts. The chorus's alternating repertoires, designed under Katgi's guidance, involve works of Turkish, Ottoman, Arabic and Armenian composers. Besides its annual or bi-annual concerts in New York City, Ataturk Chorus serves as a community chorus for Turkish New Yorkers by proudly performing on national holidays, commemorations and special occasions. Ataturk Chorus has successfully performed throughout the Northeast and at some leading college campuses such as Yale University, Rutgers University, Hunter College of the City University of NY and SUNY New Paltz.
