It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of friend and inspiring photographer Virginia Thoren, who passed away on Oct. 27 in Manhattan at age 97. After studying at Pratt Institute, Virginia embarked on a career as a couture photographer in Paris at the end of WWII. She forged a lengthy career as a fashion photographer, working in New York and internationally, photographing top models and celebrities with great sensitivity, often using natural light, including Carmen Dell’Orefice, Suzy Parker Vivien Leigh, Lee Radziwill and Julie Andrews. Virginia often made use of her Greenwich Village studio and New York City locations to create iconic images. She will be missed. Below is a link to today's New York Times Obituary.

An advertising designer with no formal training in photography, Ms. Thoren chased beauty with a camera using natural light and realistic settings.

Terrific article about two of New York's art treasures - Patti and Bill Dilworth, and two of New York's art treasures; Walter de Maria's conceptual art installations The New York Earth Room and The Broken Kilometer, gateposts to what was once the heart of New York's art world in SoHo. If you haven't visited these unique spaces lately, go before the
summer hiatus sets in.

As you ascend the stairwell toward the second floor of the eight-story building on New York’s Wooster Street where Walter de Maria’s The New York Earth Room exists as it has since 1977, the smell of earth is palpable.
