It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of friend and inspiring photographer Virginia Thoren, who passed away on Oct. 27 in Manhattan at age 97. After studying at Pratt Institute, Virginia embarked on a career as a couture photographer in Paris at the end of WWII. She forged a lengthy career as a fashion photographer, working in New York and internationally, photographing top models and celebrities with great sensitivity, often using natural light, including Carmen Dell’Orefice, Suzy Parker Vivien Leigh, Lee Radziwill and Julie Andrews. Virginia often made use of her Greenwich Village studio and New York City locations to create iconic images. She will be missed. Below is a link to today's New York Times Obituary.
An advertising designer with no formal training in photography, Ms. Thoren chased beauty with a camera using natural light and realistic settings.
