Energy is one of those things that can completely change how a dance feels.

But the tricky part isn’t always giving more.

A choreography might need 100% on one move, then 40% on the next. Sometimes the music asks for something sharp and powerful, sometimes softer and more relaxed.

Learning to dance is also learning how to control that energy, and when to change it.

Same steps. Very different result.

Save this and try the same move at 20%, 50% and 100%.

Hip isolations are one of those foundations that make so many dance moves feel easier 👇

Try this:
1. Soften your knees
2. Place your hands on your hips and keep your chest as still as you can
3. Push your hips forward → right → back → left
4. Repeat, then change direction
5. Finish with 2 big circles + 3 smaller ones each way

Follow the lime dot and focus on moving your hips without letting your shoulders follow.

It might feel strange at first. That’s the point. You’re teaching your body to move one part independently from the rest.

Old-school hip-hop basic we call: the Monastery 👟
