Last week to view ’s solo show ‘Tilt’!

As Alfred Mac Adam writes in the :
“The larger scale standing works in the south room, L (2025), Billy (2025), and Withstand (2026) introduce whimsy and humor, almost in the mode of Jean Dubuffet, but without the French artist’s anthropomorphism.

But the piece de resistance is tucked away in the northwest corner of the southern room. Walnut Shelf (2026) is a slab of wood with four small sculptures arranged on it, like a shrine for private devotion. The individual pieces can be moved around, so each new arrangement would reflect the viewer’s taste, while at the same time we understand that this small work is a compendium of Kendrick’s sculptural motifs, the architecturally constructed objects that flow from his mind to the wood.”

COLLECTORS’ PICKS

Alvin Hall has long been drawn to Mel Kendrick’s work and has followed his creative trajectory. As a collector of Mel’s work, Alvin brings a rare intimacy to our current show, Tilt, on view through June 6th.

We sat down with him to hear which works stood out to him and why.

Works featured:
Slide 4: Gemstone, 2026, mahogany, 42 x 37 x 20 inches
Slide 6: Midnight Oil, 2015, mahogany, 46 x 40 x 4 inches

Mel Kendrick on ‘Double Core’, a sculpture resolved in just three cuts, what he describes as a satisfying solution. And on making work more broadly: the whole point, he says, is to not think.

We love finding new ways to think about art and art fairs offer so many unexplored and unexpected juxtapositions. Our neighbors at Independent this year have us thinking about color, patterns, textures, fluidity, and structure in fashion, photography, and sculpture.

COMME des GARÇON presents a selection of designs by Rei Kawakubo, never before shown in New York, at the heart of the fair and right across from us at booth 303.

What will you make of Chakaia Booker and Miguel Rio Branco in these unprecedented close quarters with the works of Japan’s iconic pioneer of avant-garde fashion?

We are overjoyed to congratulate Alice Maher on her participation in “In Minor Keys”, the 61st International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia. Showing three extraordinary bodies of work at the Arsenale including “The Sibyls”, “The Map” (made in collaboration with Rachel Fallon), and the reimagined “Les Filles d’Ouranos”, Maher brings her creative competence for mythology and materiality to the world’s largest stage for contemporary art. We are proud to stand alongside her!

“I always work out of uncertainty, but when a painting’s finished it becomes a fixed idea, apparently a final statement. In time though, uncertainty returns…your thought process goes on.” —Georg Baselitz

Georg Baselitz, a pioneering German Neo-Expressionist and friend of the gallery, passed away today at 88 years old.

As a participant in the 1987 inaugural exhibition, Georg Baselitz aided in defining David Nolan Gallery’s nearly 40-year program of promoting works on paper by 20th century European artists. Over the years, Georg Baselitz has remained a grounding figure among the gallery’s ever-widening array of bold, boundary-pushing artists. His ingenuity, rebellious spirit, and fearless engagement with the complexities of German history have resulted in powerful and uniquely subversive body of work. Our thoughts are with his family and all those who have been touched by his art.
