🎶 On This Day in Musical Theater History 🎶

The original Broadway production of The Sound of Music ended its run on June 15, 1963, after 1,443 performances. Rodgers & Hammerstein’s official site notes that the production premiered in 1959, won five Tony Awards including Best Musical, and closed on June 15, 1963.

Since then, this beloved musical has continued to inspire generations of performers and audiences with its unforgettable songs, heartfelt story, and timeless message of courage, love, and music.

At Voice Performance Studio NYC, we’re so proud of our students for carrying this beloved classic forward in their own recent performance of The Sound of Music. We're so proud of them!

🎨 From the cast to the canvas — and onto the stage.

Tomorrow our production of "The Sound of Music" opens!

We have a little teaser for you: 12-year-old cast member Emma has created original artwork that will be projected as part of the background visuals, helping shape the scenic world of the performance.

We love seeing young performers contribute not only through their voices and stage presence, but also through their imagination, creativity, and artistic point of view. Emma’s artwork is becoming part of the director’s larger vision and the overall look of the production.

These three may be dressed for the convent, but behind the scenes, there’s plenty of giggling, friendship, and unforgettable rehearsal moments. That’s part of what makes student performances so special — watching young artists grow, connect, and discover the magic of being onstage together.
