EMPRESS MATILDA

by Sarah Wald + Andrea Fineberg

A historical opera inspired by Luigi Pirandello’s Henry IV, the story follows a woman who believes she is Empress Matilda after suffering a head injury. Two of her friends enlist the help of a quack doctor to bring her back to the present day. This richly layered work challenges concepts of identity and time.

Performed by soprano Cheryl Warfield, mezzo Rebecca Almeida, tenor Yunxuan Zhu, pianist Jeremy Chan, and flutist Guilherme Andreas.

All performances: Nov.15 + 16 with artist talk following the 7pm shows.
