I just bought a new pair of shoes and was once again presented with the quandary I have never been able to resolve: Why are lace-up shoes laced this way out of the box? Whenever I have to replace laces in shoes, boots, corsets, what-have-you, I do it the sensible way: Under-over (green circle). This method is not only easier when lacing, but also when loosening/tightening laces later. Why do my new shoes always come out of the box the un-sensible way: Over-under (red circle)? By the Power of Dullness, please help it make sense.

Damn the bananas! Full speed ahead!

EDIT: Many of you have rightly pointed out that only the top two eyelets in the green circle are laced the "correct" way. I was late for a wedding and only had enough time to correct the top two in order to snap this pic. Rest assured, all 16 eyelets now reflect the green circle standard of excellence. (Y) šŸ˜‰

It looks like a fairly simple job on the surfaceā€”installing boards over the existing structureā€”so the price feels steep to me.
The contractor clearly didnā€™t agree when I questioned it.
Am I missing something about the complexity here, or does this seem overpriced?

Iā€™m not even kidding ā€” I get some wild calls on a daily basis, but this one might actually take the cake. I pulled up and there it was, just sitting there on the mulch like it was waiting for its throne room to be built.
Does this thing have some kind of deeper meaning Iā€™m missing? Iā€™ve been frantically Googling ā€œgolden toilet symbolismā€ and ā€œwhy would someone leave a golden toilet at government buildingā€ for the last 20 minutes and Iā€™m still coming up empty.
Weā€™re all standing around it like itā€™s a bomb. Nobody wants to be the first one to open the lidā€¦ weā€™re low-key terrified there might be actual golden you-know-what inside.
So real talk ā€” whose brilliant idea was this? Is this performance art? A protest? A very expensive prank? Or did someone just finally say ā€œscrew itā€ and rehome their luxury bathroom fixture?
I need answers, people. The golden toilet is now the main character of our county building and we are not emotionally prepared

People really think this is acceptable tipping in 2026?
Just spent 15 minutes straight hauling one ladyā€™s massive grocery order ā€” multiple heavy trips back and forth, two giant cases of water, milk, eggs, basically the entire store. I was sweating, my arms were on fire, and I was playing real-life Tetris trying to fit everything perfectly into her trunk.
She comes out with this cute little envelope, big smile on her face, acting like sheā€™s doing me the biggest favor. I open it expecting something decentā€¦ and see a handwritten note:
ā€œThank you for all the help! Hereā€™s 11 bucks.ā€
Broā€¦ I almost lost it right there.
Then I counted again ā€” it was actually $21 total. Twenty-one dollars.
After all that physical work.
I just stood there staring at those two crumpled bills like they had personally betrayed me.
Look, if youā€™re gonna have someone do your full grocery shopping, carry everything out, and load it up like a pack mule, $21 is not the generous ā€œI take care of my delivery guyā€ move people seem to think it is. Thatā€™s not a tipā€¦ thatā€™s low-key disrespectful.
And itā€™s always the customers with the biggest, heaviest orders ā€” 47 items, multiple cases of water, overflowing bags ā€” who tip the absolute least.
The math is genuinely not mathing anymore.
Next time, just Venmo me the emotional damage fee and weā€™ll call it even.

While helping my kid with a school project, I went through some stuff my neighbor had tossed out in a box. Inside, I was shocked to find a $50 bill tucked away! I got excited and posted about our little ā€œtreasure huntā€ find.
Now my neighbor has seen the post and is asking me to return the $50. But hereā€™s the thing ā€” she threw the whole box away, so I assumed it was no longer hers. Iā€™m genuinely confused why she suddenly wants it back after discarding it.
Should I just give the money back to keep the peace, or am I right to think that once something is thrown out, it becomes fair game? This whole situation feels awkward and Iā€™m not sure what the proper thing to do is.
