Bronx River Art Center (BRAC) is pleased to announce "DIASPORIC DYSPLASIA", curated by Toisha Tucker. The exhibition will open to the public with a live reception at limited capacity on Friday evening, March 11th at 6:30pm and run through Saturday, April 16th. RSVP at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/diasporic-dysplasia-tickets-290764854507.

Diasporic Dysplasia explores the space of living and thriving within a multiplicity of cultural identities whether as immigrant or natural born citizen on soils of diasporas, firm and figurative. The abnormalities in self-perception that can emerge in that struggle to navigate the penumbra of who we are when we are many things, but also maybe none. This exhibition delves into the way some of us deal with this tension in manners that aren’t normative to the structures of our cultures-dysphasic and displaced from ourselves, other within the Other.

The artists featured in the exhibition are: Lorena Cruz Santiago, Meital Yaniv, Sarah Tortora, Slinko, Unyimeabasi Udoh, and Yasmeen Nematt Alla.

Bronx River Art Center (BRAC) warmly invites you to "there was something to it", a virtual exhibition curated by poet and interdisciplinary artist Elena Botts. Visit the gallery page on our website to check it out! (https://bronxriverart.org/gallery.cfm)

Using the pseudonym mourning dove, Botts organizes the unknown sound collective which produces poetry based sound art compositions of organic field recordings, experimental voice, and minimal instrumentation of their own creation. Together, the layering of these various sources create a noise and freak folk ensemble that mimics the otherworldly. Paired with nature/place-based glitch video, Botts creates a contemporary and artful archive of site specific communities in various parts of the world. Intended to provide a look into these small worlds, the videos give the viewers a chance to generate more thought on both human fallibility and potential, and how art can engender new social values.

Bronx River Art Center Presents: In Honor of Black Lives Matter Curated by Shawn Batey (#TWNWorkshop graduate and director of Changing Face of Harlem), Caroline Mardok, Ruvan Wijesooriya, KaN Site Curators In Honor of Black Lives Matter brings together politically engaged curators who have been actively collecting and/or photographing the Black Lives Matter movement. Their curation offers a wide array of photographers and perspectives on BLM that Capture the Movement - as Shawn Batey had named her collection of photos that seek to answer the question, “Who is a protester?”. Through the lenses of these often unrecognized Black photographers— Adreinne Waheed, Jarrett Robertson, Darwensi, Sade Fasanya, Christian Onuoha, they share their experience in the Black Lives Matter Movement with intensity and pathos. https://bronxriverart.org/gallery.cfm
We are so excited to share that our very own Victorio Milian, HR Consultant at KCC and photographer at Creative Chaos Photography by Victorio Milian, will be featured at an upcoming Bronx River Art Center (BRAC) exhibition titled “In Honor of Black Lives Matter,” alongside other talented photographers spotlighted by photography collective Capture the Movement (CTM). CTM aims to "spotlight & amplify the work of Black Photographers covering the Black Lives Matter Movement." Starting this Saturday, May 22, 2021, Victorio's work will be on display at the Bronx River Art Center. The exhibition will kick off with an opening reception tomorrow, 5/22 from 5-7 pm. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, admissions will be limited; however, BRAC will be streaming this Saturday's opening reception live on their page. Victorio says, "This will be the first CTM event in my home borough of The Bronx. I hope you come out and check out the show!" WORLD COLLAGE DAY BRONX, NEW YORK, USA DREAMS 2-5PM EDT | Bronx River Art Center. 1087 East Tremont Avenue, The Bronx, NY 10460. From Joseph Cornell’s curious found-object boxes to Romare Bearden layered scenes of black lives “paste-ups,” we discover the seemingly limitless way to mix materials and create something entirely new and surprising. While living in the present and dreaming about the future and possibilities of the post-pandemic state, we ask ourselves how we can imagine our futures together? Collage is the best amalgamating medium to take us to this journey. Collage unites every day, the fantastical, the magical, the urban, and the human. While integrating the dreams into the cutouts, Kathie Halfin and the Bronx River Art Center will create a community collage that will be presented at the main window of the gallery space in the Bronx. Each participant will use transparent colored plastic to collage images of their dreams. The final piece will be installed on the window and will include transparent colored strips covered with collaged shapes of participants. Read more: http://www.kolajmagazine.com/worldcollageday/2021/events.html#bronx World Collage Day is May 8, 2021. Collage artists around the globe are organizing events. We're still celebrating amazing female artists from NYC for #BxCMArtSpotTuesday. Check out Abigail D. DeVille, a site-specific installation artist with exhibits all over the U.S. Here's a piece she did for the Bronx River Art Center! How does this piece make you feel?

Dr. Nicole Fleetwood & MOMA-PS1 share a curated video tour of the "Marking Time Exhibition" -- powerful, inspiring work by 44 men & women in the hellholes of #Amerikkka. Their art is full of feeling & meaning...it is beautiful...and a passionate declaration of the humanity of those, mostly people of color, whom this system degrades, despises, and casts off. This is a benefit for Revolution Books in Harlem.
