Now on the FoST Podcast.

Matthew DuPlessie, location-based entertainment pioneer and Founder & CEO of Level99 and 5 Wits, has spent his career building experiences that bring people together in the real world.

So what’s the secret sauce?

What Level99 offers isn’t passive entertainment. It’s real challenge.

Experiences that ask something of you. Require effort. Make you earn progress.

At the same time, they’re designed to be accessible to anyone walking in, while offering enough depth for those who want to come back, improve, and go further.

It’s a balance between entry and mastery, between first-time play and long-term engagement.

This episode breaks down what it actually takes to design experiences people want to come back to.

Inside Sphere , The Wizard of Oz becomes a full-body experience.

Wind, temperature shifts, debris in the air. You don’t just watch the tornado, you feel it. At moments, it’s so immersive it almost feels like it could lift you out of your seat.

There are quieter surprises too. Butterflies moving through the space. Apples dropping from above as the room comes alive around you. It’s playful, physical, and genuinely thrilling.

Not every moment lands. Some of the AI-driven character work still needs refining, and you feel it when it does.

But when it works, it really works.

A few rough edges. A lot of magic.

Overall, a treat. And a glimpse of where cinematic storytelling is headed.

One of our favorite memories from the FoST Explorers Club, the day we visited Google X’s Design Kitchen in San Francisco.

Google X exists to solve the world’s hardest problems. Not in theory, but in practice. In a lab, with teams quietly building technologies most of us won’t see for years.

FoST Explorers got a rare, behind-the-scenes look inside the Design Kitchen, guided by Director of Engineering and Prototyping Joseph Sargent, where ideas move from concept to working prototype.

It’s the kind of place that makes you reconsider what’s actually possible, and what might be closer than you think.

This is one of the things we love most about the FoST Explorers Club. Every trip is built around access to the people, the places, and the ideas defining what comes next. Google X was one of the stops in San Francisco that left our members genuinely inspired.

Scale changes everything.

At the Sphere, The Wizard of Oz isn’t just projected. It surrounds you.

For Jay Rinsky, Founder and Chief Creative Director of Little Cinema, this is a clear example of something bigger.

Real change in this industry requires critical mass, and the Sphere shows what’s possible when immersive cinema reaches that scale.

It gives audiences the chance to experience film the way it felt in the early days, when everything was new and innovative.

FoST Explorers Club Miami, 2025, during Art Basel.

Across the city, moments of light, scale, and participation.

From immersive environments at Superblue Miami to bold, large-scale works and hands-on creative experiences, including a graffiti activation where the FoST Explorers Club left its mark.

Before Pokémon GO app became a global phenomenon with over a billion downloads, John Hanke helped build Google Earth and Google Maps, tools that changed how billions of people understand and navigate the world.

At the center of it all is a simple question: how do you use technology to tell the story of the real world, not replace it?

FoST Explorers spent an afternoon at Niantic's San Francisco offices with John, touring the studio and talking about the future of augmented reality, location-based storytelling, and why the best stories happen outside.

This is the kind of access the FoST Explorers Club makes possible. Learn more https://www.home.fostexplorersclub.com/

It started on a cold night in New York.

Jay Rinsky, founder of Little Cinema, and a group of artists put on an improvised screening of The Labyrinth, with a twist.

Live performance. Rescored music. A room that felt more like a stage than a theater.

Part cinema, part circus, part immersive experience.

They kept going. One film a week. A new kind of moviegoing started to emerge.

What if imagination wasn’t pretend?

The Wolves in the Walls is a piece of virtual reality cinema that places you inside the story, where you don’t just watch Lucy’s world unfold, you help her navigate it.

The story listens. Reacts. Changes with you.

Based on the work by Neil Gaiman and Dave McKean, developed by Fable Studio in collaboration with Third Rail Projects NYC.

A defining example of responsive storytelling.

The Wolves in the Walls is a piece of virtual reality cinema that places you inside the story, where you don’t just watch Lucy’s world unfold, you help her navigate it.
