The Magnet Theater is proud to be hosting the 11th annual New York Musical Improv Festival. The NYMIF celebrates the community of improvisors, actors, singers, and musicians who gather in NYC once a year to meet, perform, and lets face it - show off. The first NYMIF was created eleven years ago - to promote musical improv and bring those performers together. Since then, musical improv has exploded across the country with new programs starting every year. In New York City, musical house teams have become a staple at all of the major comedy theaters. The Magnet has expanded its own program to four levels and now boasts eight musical house teams. Past festivals have included teams and performers from Austin TX, Boston, Chicago, Denver, Edmonton, Los Angeles, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Oklahoma City, Palm Beach, Paris France, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Raleigh NC, San Diego, San Francisco, Toronto, Vancouver, Washington DC, and even a half-mile away - from Broadway. We are always looking for cutting-edge and traditional musical improv performers. Past shows have featured everything from an improvised rock concert to a fully costumed Dickensian musical, improvised hip-hop, college groups, duo and solo shows, and even the cast and band from Broadways “Bloody, Bloody Andrew Jackson.”
