Let’s get back to some florals🌸

I’ve wanted to try working with Worbla - it’s a thermoplastic that you can shape with heat. It’s used a lot in the cosplay world and I’m honestly not sure why I haven’t tried it out sooner! I used it to make the base for this piece and it’s super sturdy. I was able to start glueing on my faux orchids and moss so quickly. I definitely have a lot more “best practices” to learn when it comes to working with Worbla, but I love how this piece is coming together.💕

One thing I love about my new studio is that I have lots of wall space to display art! Here’s a little tour of what I’ve hung up so far, featuring some really wonderful artists including:

Last night, I watched a video of our family opening presents on Christmas morning when I was in 5th grade. One of the gifts I opened was a couple skeins of variegated purpled yarn, and I was so excited. I don’t even know what I planned to do with that yarn, but all the possibilities I can envision when I get new art supplies has always made me happy. 🥰

This weekend, I went on a little shopping spree and used some more of my grant money from the to buy some new art supplies, and it honestly feels like Christmas! I got canvases, mineral spirits, a paintbrush, brush cleaner, a paint tube crimper, sketchbooks, markers, colored pencils, and some faux floral supplies for an idea I have…🌸

Thank you so much to the Kent Cultural Alliance for supporting artists in Kent County. I feel so grateful to look around my studio and see tools and materials I’ve been able to buy and projects I’ve been able to create because of your support.💛

Thank you again to the Kent Cultural Alliance for the 2026 Independent Artist Grant! 💕 I used some of the funds to purchase a working table that I can cut fabric on, lay out my projects and stand to work at!

A table might not seem like an obvious thing to buy for my studio, but it has already made a difference! I feel like the older we get, the more people can relate to having back issues. After having spine surgery a few years ago, my threshold for sitting on the floor to work or hunching over a table is super low haha. Being able to have my work at a comfortable height with enough space to lay out projects is a game changer.

Thank you KCA for supporting Kent County artists. There is still more to come from this grant, so stay tuned.✨

Let’s get back to painting this turtle✨

Welcome to my new painting corner✨

Excited to start my first oil painting in my new studio! This little turtle has been in my camera roll ready to be painted and it’s finally his time. The first layer of paint is always a little messy, but trust the process haha

I’m so excited to have received an Independent Artist Grant from the 💛 This is the third year I’ve received the grant, and it’s allowed me to purchase supplies for my studio including my easel, sewing machine, dress form, and other painting and sewing supplies. This year, the Kent Cultural Alliance has added an additional benefit to the award - next February they will be hosting an exhibition of work by all of the 2026 grant recipients. I’m so grateful for their support of artists in Kent County and am excited to get to work!✨

Sneak peek at my new studio! My legs were tired after this haha. Still a lot of cleaning and organizing to do, but really excited about this space.✨

P.S. The “It’s all good!” sign came with the place, but it’s kind of growing on me…😂
