National Dance Institute (NDI) brings the joy of dance and music into the lives of thousands of children each year. Founded in 1976 by Jacques d’Amboise, we are proud to be celebrating our 50th anniversary year. In partnership with public schools, families, and communities, NDI creates spaces where every child can move, create, and belong. Our programs are designed to nurture confidence, spark creativity, and build a sense of community so that all children, regardless of background, ability, or experience, have the opportunity to grow through the arts.

It takes a lot of people to make the NDI magic happen. 💛

This week, our Teaching Artists and musicians are deep in preparation for the year ahead—choreography sessions inspired by our curricular theme, classroom management workshops, guest Teaching Artists, and conversations about best practices that keep the NDI Method growing and evolving.

And behind the scenes, our administrative staff is hard at work too - making sure our teams are ready to head into schools, programs are set up for success, communications and storytelling are planned, partnerships are supported, and all the many pieces that make an NDI year possible are in place.

Different roles. Different talents. One team working toward the same goal: creating extraordinary experiences for young people through dance, music and the arts.

Here’s to the people behind the magic - and our 2026-2027 NDI team. 💛
And yes, apparently choreography is still easier than getting all of us into one group photo. 😂📸

Meet Team Jacques! 💛

For Shelley Vanderhout, the NYC Marathon is about coming together for something bigger.

“I’m running the NYC marathon to experience a global community coming together around a shared love for running, collective experience, and supporting important initiatives like NDI.”

Shelley also has a special connection to NDI’s history: her uncle was a good friend of our founder, Jacques d’Amboise. Now, she’s carrying that connection forward as a member of Team Jacques—running 26.2 miles to help support the next generation of NDI dancers.

We’re so grateful to have Shelley running with us!

Congratulations to Lexi Viernes-Blair, NDI’s 2026–2027 Marc S. Solomon Teaching Artist Fellow! 💛

The Marc S. Solomon Teaching Artist Fellowship supports exceptionally gifted emerging dancer-choreographers of color as they grow as leaders in dance and arts education—providing a full year of salaried employment, professional development, and opportunities to deepen their work throughout NDI.

Lexi steps into the Fellowship as she begins her fourth year as an NDI Teaching Artist, bringing with her a rich professional dance career and years of experience teaching young people in both California and New York.

In this next chapter, Lexi says she looks forward to continuing to “learn and lead with joy” while encouraging young dancers to find their inner light.

We’re so proud to have Lexi as part of the NDI family and thrilled to celebrate this well-deserved next step in her journey. Please join us in congratulating her! 💛
