We are excited to share a new, landmark documentary that extensively features the NYTF and our artistic director, Zalmen Mlotek, in “Immigrant Songs: Yiddish Theater and the American Jewish Experience” !

Join us to explore how Yiddish theater shaped the American Jewish experience by blending the sounds of the synagogue and shtetl with European classical music and American popular song.

Featuring a distinguished cast of historians, critics, musicologists, and performing artists, the documentary highlights music from Yiddish theater’s heyday of the 1920s and 30s and the influential “big four” composers: Joseph Rumshinsky, Sholom Secunda, Alexander Olshanetsky, and Abraham Ellstein. It also highlights the cultural resurgence of the art form, culminating in the milestone 2018 Yiddish production of Fiddler on the Roof (Fiddler afn Dakh), where Zalmen Mlotek is interviewed.

NYTF honors the memory of legendary conductor Michael Tilson Thomas z״l: Grandson of iconic Yiddish theatre performers Bessie and Boris Thomashefsky. May his memory be a blessing.

We are YomHashoah help bring “Neshome Lider: Songs of Resilience from the Holocaust” to the congregation at Adas Israel for Yom HaShoah tomorrow, April 14 at 7:00 PM.

This program, created in collaboration with NYTF Artistic Director Zalmen Mlotek, Cantor Arianne Brown, and Rabbi Avram Mlotek, lifts up Yiddish songs written during the Holocaust, woven with story and reflection. The evening will reveal how song became an act of spiritual resistance and hope.

Big announcement! The Magic of the Yiddish Fiddler will soon be seen again in 2 fully staged productions! First, this spring in Toronto, May 25-June 7. And just announced: Winter 2027 in LA. We are thrilled to be part of the 2026-2027 season.

Fiddler on the Roof is one of the most beloved and successful musicals in Broadway history, resonating for generations across cultures and continents. This past weekend, NYTF debuted Rising Stars in Boca Raton — a concert celebrating the next generation of talent in Jewish music and Yiddish culture.

Audiences were wowed by the incredible performances of Yair Keydar, Margot Weintraub, Mia Tweel, and Riki Rose, with a special appearance by Cantor Magda Fishman.

This concert celebrated NYTF’s ongoing work to mentor and support young artists carrying forward the tradition of Yiddish music, language, and culture.

We can’t wait to see what the future holds for these remarkable performers.
