As the 2024 eclipse darkens the Arizona sky, an 1864 abortion law is reinstated. Dr.Bette Singer fights to protect her patients—and her soul— within a collapsing world. She conjures a surreal quilting circle that collides with the sterile walls of Tucson General Hospital and seeks reconciliation with her family. “A Meditation on Hope” stitches together medicine, myth and memory in a surreal reckoning with faith, family, and the cost of autonomy.

When a long-dormant 1864 law is suddenly reinstated, fetal medicine chief Bette Singer is thrust into a whirlwind where history, politics, and personal conviction collide. A Meditation on Hope blends sharp humor with emotional depth, leaping between a Puritan quilting circle and a modern-day hospital under siege on the day of the solar eclipse. As the pressure mounts, Bette’s reality fractures. With wit, heart, and urgency the play explores how systems of power endure, how women resist in quiet and bold ways, and how hope is passed down, stitch by stitch.
