ITALY: Join us for ICONICA - 3 performances in 3 charming towns of the Molise region; Larino, Termoli & Civitacampomarano. ICONICA explores the evolution of Catholic iconography particular to the southern Italian region of Campania; from its pagan origins to the sacred image of La Madonna di Montevergine. According to legend, La Madonna di Montevergine saved the lives of two persecuted male lovers who had been tied to a tree by an angry mob & left to die in 1256. To honor their patron saint, LGBTQ+ Neapolitans make an annual pilgrimage to Montevergine’s mountaintop sanctuary, to celebrate her with song & dance.

Sunday, 7/14 at 6pm. - Teatro Risorgimento – Larino, IT.
Monday, 7/15 at 9::30pm - Scalinata del Folcklore – Termoli, IT.
Tuesday, 7/16 at 9:30pm - Castello Angioino – Civitacampomarano, IT.

Direction & Dramaturgy - Giandomenico Sale. Choreography - Richard Move. Featuring - Niccolò Basile, Sabrina Retrò Giordano & Marco Munno w/ Richard Move as La Madonna di Montevergine. Music - Federico Dal Pozzo, Niccolò Basile & traditional songs. Costumes - Sorelle Benaduce. Producer - Romyna Guadalupe Gomez.

Presented by Frentania Teatri, Gruppo e-motion con il sostegno del MIC, Comune di Termoli e del Comune di Larino.

Please join us for “Devrai (Sacred Grove)” – presented by the Martin E. Segal Theatre Center festival, Prelude in the Parks – Performances for the Planet. Friday, June 7 at 6 & 6:30pm. Riverside Park – 79th Street at Riverside Drive.

“Devrai (Sacred Grove),” is part two of Richard Move's Herstory of the Universe series designed to call attention to our local ecosystems and landscapes & premiered as part of Herstory of the Universe@Governors Island, the first performance commissioned by the Trust for Governors Island, named “Best Dance of 2021” by The New York Times.

The Indian word “Devrai” is a compound of Dev meaning 'God' and 'Rai' meaning forest. A pre -herstoric tradition of nature conservation, sacred groves have long been revered as sacrosanct and imbued with the belief that no creature may be harmed within its boundaries.

First performed by Megumi Eda on Governors Island & most recently by Akua Noni Parker at Hopkins Center for the Arts, Dartmouth College, the solo will be performed by Aristotle Luna.

Free, no reservation required & we hope to see you there! For more information, please visit: https://www.thesegalcenter.org/prelude-in-parks-2024/devrai-(sacred-grove)
