Sharing some favorite moments from behind the scenes of Diary of a Madman before jumping into our FINAL THREE performances! I have so many thoughts floating through my head. What beautiful madness we have immersed ourselves in for the past few months. I feel so blessed to have made new friends as well as reconnecting with long time supporters through Gogol’s masterpiece. The images and impressions continue to haunt me. A low-level clerk falls in love with an unattainable ideal. The more he pursues her, the further the distance between them, and the deeper his descent into madness. When his rejection is complete, he fancies himself the King of Spain and winds up in a mental institution, where he is tortured, beaten and killed. It’s a heartbreaking story, but one that is so relatable for me. I believe we are all mad—some of us are just better at hiding it than others. We often exaggerate our own importance, building a fortress made of labels, titles, and fortunes. But the truth is nature will keep on evolving without us. Our legends, heroes and Gods will live only as long as the memory of the human race, whose eternal existence is hardly guaranteed. What else is there but to live in the moment, love and let love, forgive and forget, eat a good meal, and savor what’s yours? I believe Diary of a Madman is a cautionary tale, an atonal love song, and a kaleidoscopic nightmare. What an honor it has been to adapt and produce this show! We hope you will join us at Pushkin Hall as we countdown the final three performances. (Just a few seats left). Link in my bio!
