St. Bam Choir

St. Bam Choir Formed on a whim in June 2018, St. Bam is an ensemble of young singers and musicians of varying degrees of (a)vocationality.

We are named for the patron saint of sopranos, tenors, basses, altos, and mezzos (in that order).

Hey friends, we missed you! If you missed us too, catch us THIS WEDNESDAY 4/3 as we reprise some of our rep from last summer and sing with some top notch young musicians.

St. Bam joins the Upper School Chorus from The Calhoun School for a benefit concert at 7pm at The Calhoun School (433 West End Ave.).

The concert will feature a wide variety of music, including everything from Billie Holiday to early Renaissance music to the Buena Vista Social Club.

Donations at the door will go to the Council for American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), an organization working to fight Islamophobia, empower American Muslims, and promote justice and understanding. We hope you’ll come out to hear some great music for a great cause

St. Bam! and friends had a blast caroling last night! The cold impaired our thinking so we didn't take any video, but we raised $213 for Planned Parenthood and made lots of people smile!

"If Ye Love Me" by Thomas Tallis (1505 – 1585) is one of the great classics of the Renaissance, and the architypal Anglican anthem (never mind that Tallis was a devout Catholic).

The legend goes that swans are silent (or just really ugly-sounding) until the moment of their death, when they let forth a beautiful song. Here's a madrigal by Orlando Gibbons about a swan's final lovely notes (and possibly also a dig at the decline of the English madrigal: "more geese than swans now live, more fools than wise [men]").

A beautiful and haunting piece by 20th century French composer Francis Poulenc, written towards the beginning of the N**i occupation of France. The text is a plea to Mary for grace and mercy.
