In 1414 BC the Greek playwright Aristophanes performed ‘The Birds’, in which Pisthetaerus,a middle-aged Athenian, persuades the world’s entire population of birds to create a new city in the sky to be named Nephelokokkygia or Cloud Cuckoo Land, granting him complete control over all communications between gods and men. Cloud Cuckoo Land became an early reference for philosophers such as Friedrich Nietzsche and Karl Kraus, only later to be popularized by politicians from Newt Gingrich’s referral to Barack Obama’s claim that algae could be used as fuel source,to as early as 1929 when former Vice President Henry A. Wallace used the the term to describe the unrealistically inflated value of stocks just before the crash that onset the Great Depression. Cloud Cuckoo Land is also the name of a hidden realm inside a cloud featured in ‘The Lego Movie’ where an an iconoclastic, mixed genre society exists where there are no rules or unhappy things. The hidden base was the final outpost for the rebel protagonists and councils of Master Builder before it was destroyed by Lord Business’s army and fell into collapse into a giant Lego ocean. On November 26th, 2021, Elon Musk used the phrase to mock General Motors CEO Mary Barra's claim that GM is the electric vehicles leader, despite Tesla controlling 63% of the US electric vehicle market share compared to GM only accounting for 9-10%. Musk tweeted, "Must be nice living in Cloud Cuckoo Land."

The art world is usually either in a state of revolution or building up to one.

For example, Damien Hirst and Jeff Koons are giants today, and both came out of left field.

Jeff Koons' first piece was the vacuum cleaners, and nobody knew what the hell it was. Damien Hirst had the dead things, the shark, and so on, and everybody in the art establishment rejected it. And then they became the next stars. It's always like this.

As a sculptor, I very much feel as if I'm constantly in the shadow of painting. Although there are many sculptors I have a deep admiration for, it seems as if much of the past 100 years of art history has been the story of contemporary painting. Still life painting in particular has always captivated me, and I have been working on my own series of "Still Life” sculptures composed of cast resin found objects for several years.

I like to create work that conveys the relationship between objects and light — similar as to painting. I also find it fascinating that everyone views art differently.

Here are some various perspectives of my "Leave Everything" art installation at Castle Fitzjohns Gallery in NYC (2014).

As a materialist, I regularly use products in opposition to their ‘purpose’ — if something is hard I will seek to make it appear soft, or if its delicate I will try to make it imperishable. One of the many joys of sculpture is the opportunity to experiment with a wide range of materials.
