Houston has officially declared August 22 as “Lyrikal Day” in honour of Trinidad and Tobago soca artiste Lyrikal and his contributions to music, education and community development.

The proclamation was presented during the city’s Independence celebrations, with the Trinidad & Tobago Association of Texas also recognising Lyrikal’s commitment to giving back.

As part of the occasion, Lyrikal sponsored two US$1,000 scholarships through TTAT’s 2026 Scholarship Programme, helping two students pursue their educational goals.

The artiste said the recognition was deeply meaningful, stressing the importance of investing in young people, preserving Caribbean culture and using success to open doors for others.
