My one and only (Dasha) is celebrating her birthday today, and I just want to say that I’m endlessly grateful to the universe for bringing us together at the College of the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory exactly 21 years ago.

The other day, I found out that somewhere in Scandinavia there’s apparently a competition where people imitate the sounds of seagulls. Your unmistakable laugh would absolutely wipe the floor with everyone there. But I’m grateful that you’re not chasing fleeting fame, not heading off to Scandinavia, and instead staying here with me—eating blue corn chips and making music.

I love you! Happy Birthday!

P.S. Mom loves you too. And tulips. But you even more.

"Rachmaninoff had big hands"

04/06/2026

Vancouver friends! We’re counting the days and can’t wait to share this beautiful two-piano program with you 🤩

Rachmaninoff’s famous Prelude in C-sharp minor (in his rarely played two-piano transcription),
his Suites for two pianos,
and Mussorgsky’s "Pictures at an Exhibition" in our original two-piano version.

Absolutely unbelievable music that we love and feel deeply connected to. It stuns everyone whom we have played for.

Bring your family, share with friends, and join us on May 5 - we’d love to see your faces in the crowd 🤩

📅May 5 • 6:30 PM
📍 Christ Church Cathedral, Vancouver

💐Today we celebrate Sergei Rachmaninoff — born April 1, 1873 🎂💐

And here is a little excerpt of Rachmaninoff's "Romance" from his Second Suite op.17 for you :)

Such a marvelous piece, and such a story behind...

Rachmaninoff's Suite No. 2 for Two Pianos was written after 3 years of depression and silence.

In 1897, his First Symphony premiered - and failed. (Some blame Glazunov, who was conducting it that evening)
Rachmaninov went silent. He stopped composing for nearly three years.

Through hypnotherapy sessions with Dr. Dahl, he worked through the doubt - and gradually began to hear music again.
The comeback began with two pianos. The Second Suite was completed in 1901, alongside the famous Second Piano Concerto op.18.

Not a shadow of the old anxiety - in its place: confidence, brilliance… almost triumph.

Enjoy this brief moment of beauty and pure delight, recorded live at the Studio Dissonances on March 24th.

Happy Birthday, Sergei Vasilievich 🎹
We truly cannot imagine a world without your music..

Special thanks to Piano Vertu Montréal and .studio for giving us the space to share the music we love.

📅 May you be in Vancouver on May 5th, come to see us play this live at the
📍Christ Church Cathedral.

The program is fantastic:

Rachmaninoff:

Prelude in C sharp minor
Suite n.1, op. 5
Suite n.2, op. 17

Mussorgsky
"Pictures at an Exhibition" (our own transcription for two pianos)

Many of you may know that some time ago we recorded and released a Triptych op.145 by Nikolai Kapustin.

What is less known, however, is that at the end of that recording session, with just about 25 minutes remaining, we decided—almost on a whim—to play Kapustin’s “Manteca.”

By that point, we were, to put it mildly, quite exhausted, and had neither the energy nor the clarity to properly reflect on what we had just recorded. As a result, the take was quietly set aside and left unheard.

Only recently, upon returning from tour, we rediscovered this draft and listened to it with fresh ears—only to find that the performance was, perhaps, far better than we had remembered.

(That said, we kindly ask you to forgive our rather tired appearance 😄)

We are now very happy to share this spontaneous recording with you.

Enjoy!

Here’s the promised second portion of photos from Grande Prairie — this time from the masterclass we gave to six talented young musicians!

Not only was it a great deal of fun (as you can probably tell from the photos), but it was also a genuine surprise for us. We discovered the wonderful Caprice No. 1 by Sophie-Carmen Eckhardt-Gramatté — a piece we had never encountered before. What a beautifully crafted miniature, full of character and mastery!

We instantly fell in love and eagerly began uncovering the hidden messages within this musical gem, which was, in fact, dedicated to the composer’s husband.

Do take a listen if you have the chance — and if your piano skills allow you to sight-read it yourself, the joy you’ll experience is truly incomparable.

We will definitely be exploring more of her music!

Many thanks to .vavrek for capturing these moments 📸

And for organizing this wonderful masterclass — we enjoyed every second of it! ❤️

Studio Dissonances
Christ Church Cathedral on Burrard

Such a joy it was to perform at Northern Polytechnic!

It’s hard to describe how incredible the people in Grande Prairie are: kind, talented, and… big! Oh my goodness - we met so many people after the performance and even tried comparing hand sizes with a few… and failed miserably 😆

Kudos to the remarkable for organizing everything so perfectly!

A truly unforgettable experience - we would love to come back again someday.

Enjoy these wonderful photos!
