Of all the cities in the Soviet Union, it was Brest that had the fate to take the first battle with the German invaders.
In the early morning of June 22, 1941, the enemy bombed the Brest fortress, which at that time was about 7 thousand Soviet soldiers and family members of the commanders.
The attack on the fortress was sudden. Fire from the air, the N***s destroyed the water supply and warehouses, cut off communication. The garrison of the fortress suffered significant losses.
The German command expected to capture the fortress within a few hours, but the 45th division of the Wehrmacht was stuck in Brest for a week and with significant losses for another month suppressed individual pockets of resistance of the heroes-defenders of Brest. The Brest fortress became a symbol of courage, heroic fortitude and valor of Soviet soldier.
